I'm organizationally anal and want to know how far, how many miles and how long it took so I log all my stuff in an excel spreadsheet including my rides, runs, hikes, workouts, etc. If I don't 'see' my progress I feel like a slacker and it makes me want to do more but if I see that I'm already doing a lot, I feel better about sitting down and taking a night off.

I also want to track how many miles I put on my bike and if my times are getting better when I train for my trail runs so this makes it easy and all in one place. Excel rocks.

You guys are lucky to be able to commute to work. I sure wish I could. I'm right at 1,300 miles and it's all trail. If I could commute even a few miles a day that would really help push me closer to my goal of 2,000.

The STR club over on BJ is now at 7,047 miles for the year after I joined on and threw my 933 miles for this year into the club log. Coolio!

Actually, after looking over the numbers, I'm not sure how it's up to 7,047 since the member miles don't get us that far... unless someone's hidden miles are doing it. Not sure about that one.

So, I guess from now on any miles I log (roadie or MTB) will be added to the STR coffers. Fun stuff.

Pen and paper has worked for years. I have a stack of old note pads/books going back to the late 80s. I break them out every once in a while to compare then and now.

Geoladders, it's pretty easy to use and I don't have a GPS. Ann carries the GPS and I go off hers when there isn't a route created.

Ann also uses Motion Based sometimes, but most of our rides are logged on Geoladders. It's nice to see how far you've come or how much riding you're doing compared to past history.

Looks like the member awordf4you has "Private" miles. Perhaps that's where the 1,700 miles are.

I hope more STR folks jump on this little bandwagon. I know not everyone will do it, but seeing all the miles a portion of the group does is great stuff. It can be inspiring to see what we can do as a group.

Thanks goes out to the folks that joined the BikeJournal STR Group so far. And more thanks will go to the peeps that decide to join in the future.

I have a very bad habit of forgetting my 305. When I first got it, it never came off of me but now sheesh...I forget. The times I do have it use the garmin software and motion based.

I also write everything in my calendar and highlight all my work outs. Just because it looks pretty!

You should be able to get there. You're well over halfway there. Almost half of our miles are road miles, so consider the fact that you've done 1300 trail miles to be pretty good!!

Send me the link where you log in the miles. I've got a lot.

I keep my road miles seperate from my mtb miles as I equate road miles as 3:1 for mountain. I do combine them for total miles, but I like to keep track as it also tells me what I should expect my fitness level to be at. As I get older, I've noticed that even though I'm logging more miles my overall speed has decreased substancially. So it's not a direct relation to miles put (in) to (faster) miles. No big deal though, I still like to average 5000 miles or more a year, but the family frowns on it when I start getting to much more then that.

You can't be much oldr than me...36? 37?

When you sign up on BikeJournal, you have the option of logging what type of ride it was (road/trail). You can even log what bike you were riding along with a slew of other information.

When you search for a club to join, just look for SoCalTrailRiders.

Awesome!! Thanks!!

Once you sign up, go to "Manage Clubs" and join the SoCalTrailRiders group.

Then start logging away!!
