Default *Pics* Picked up a rack today.. On correctly?

I stopped by everybody's favorite/not so favorite chain store today(Performance Bikes). They were having a 20$ off purchases over 50.00 not counting any over priced sale items, sale price. hahahahah

Model:: Thule Thruway 2 / no.968

The rack was 49.00 and I picked up two spare tubes, a pack of patches and an hand pump and chain lube.

It's funny how they took the discount off all the products. Which was quite ingenious actually, taking the amount off all products and obviously the least off high margin products.

eh... either way...

Is this installed correctly from what you can tell?

It's resting in the crack of the spoiler and trunk, but due to the design, more weight is resting on the bottom support against the bumper. It appears to be ok for a cheap rack.

1. bike on rack

2. rack straps attached

3. frame strap

thanks,

I know it's a simple addon, but with my bike hanging off the back, I just wanted to make sure there was nothing I was missing.

Hard to believe 6 tiny straps hold that thing on there...

When I used to use a trunk rack I would always shake the rack hard and if the whole car moved I knew that I had a good connection.

I had a '98 GT until a little over a year ago. Loved the deep rumble as the car idled.

Anyhow, I always took off the front tire and put the bike on the rear seat because I couldn't bear the thought of a bike rack possibly scratching the paint. If I had to do it again, I would have had them weld a hitch to the back and get a hitch mounted rack.

I raised up the angle on the rack a little and yes it does look a little low. The car is dropped almost 2 inches which does drop the rack that much lower.

make sure you have your bike strapped down. Recently I purchased a new 10Ft Harbour Surfboard and after a early morning session I was in a hurry and I forgot to strap down my board well THank good the board was in the board bag and that the board landed in the vegatation on the side of Newport Blvd.

In addition to the straps on it, i'm picking up a couple bungee cords just in case.

As suggested, the front tire will come off for trips.

If you are going to take the rear tire off for trips, I would suggest putting a spacer in between the brake pad of your front caliper to ensure they don't close up on you. Additionally, you will want to be very slow going into/out of drivewys where your approach and departure angles have been drastically reduced. I would hate to see you bang up your new bike.

And tie off those strap ends so they don't flail around as you roll down the f-way.

Also, when I use a rack like that, I wrap a bungee through the front wheel and round the frame under a bit of tension to keep the fork/wheel from flopping around.

didnt notice it, but sitting here at work i looked to my left after reading this and yep... I'm going to have to adjust the cable.. probably missing a zip tie of some sort.

It appears after looking at it that the cable is a little longer than it needs to be. I never noticed it, which shows you how much I pay attention.

I'll have to add that to the list of things to work on this weekend.
