Default Standover Height ?

What's the general rule for standover height on MTBs now?
I am 5' 9" and I tried ChumbaJason's Medium size EVO and my testosterone makers hit the top tube!!

I can't imagine needing to ride a small frame while being 5' 9"!!

Effective (Horizontal) top tube is more important for fit on a bike. But I hear ya. Some folks don't like all the steep sloping and curved/hydroformed top tubes you see out today because they look too comfort bike-ish. But my jewels, and especially my knees on steep technical climbs love the clearance.

when you crash, do you land with both feet on the ground at the same time while straddling your top tube? i know i dont. my point is, i wouldnt sweat it too much at all.

my gnads hit the top tube on my medium coiler, its just the way it is. like carl said, be more concerned with the top tube length rather than the height.

I usually go by the 2-3" for the stand-over height. But I think that this is just a guideline. It only works for people who are proportional to their height and leg length. For me I have short legs and I still have trouble getting on my 16.5 giant. I have a long torso so it works out. So id say take it for a ride and get the overall fell of the bike. Ive been on my giant for about 4 years and havent had issues with a short stand-over height. Just gotta get the hang of falling correctly.

It really depends on your body shape...if you have stumpy legs and long torso/arms...you'll want a longer top tube...if you have long legs w/ shorter torso/arms the standover height won't matter and a shorter top tube might be more comfortable...5'9" is USUALLY a medium but that also changes from frame to frame....

Each bike is set up different. You may ride a small in one brand and a med in another.
When I crash I'm flying OTB.Praying for a soft landing.

parking lot crash

There are two kinds of m-bikers. Those that have crashed in the parking lot and those that lie about not crashing
