Default SS wheelset

I've got a set on Sun Ryhno lites with Surly hubs on my ss and they are anything but light. Might be better described as bulletproof. Still not a bad set, just looking to go lighter. Anyone got any ideas? I'd like to stay under 500.

under or ~$500 new, i would give larry (mtnhighcyclery) and/or chad (redbarnbicycles) a call and see what a Hope / DT wheelset would cost. That would give you a good baseline to work from.

I run Hope Pro 2s on WTB speeddisks. They are great hubs, easy to maintain, good engagement, and durable but you wont be sneaking up on anyone.

With only 24 points of engagement, how do you consider "good engagement"?

When I stomp the pedals, they engage. Seems pretty good to me

Why light wheels when that frame weighs a ton. Surly 1x1.

stop buying so much food

You will lose weight for obvious reasons (that address the weight issue and also carries over to your other bikes) and you will have more money saved up so that you can take that 500 bucks for a new wheelset and eventually save for a new bike.

IMO makes more sense to have lighter wheels than a lighter frame.........
