Andy, will the DHX5 coil off my 5-Spot work on a Nomad? I may need to sell it, won't work on 07RFX frames.

Dean,

If it's 8.5" x 2.5", then I think it'll work.

Not sure why you'd say that about the IH. I've been riding an Iron Horse 6point for the last few months and have been extremely pleased with the bike. My previous bike was a 05 Turner RFX, and so far I prefer the Iron Horse. The current build with a coil shock is 35 lbs.

I agree you should check out the Intense 6.6. My GF has one and absolutely loves it. The head angle is very similar to the Nomad. According to the respective websites, the Nomad has a 67 degree HA with a 545mm A/C fork and the Intense has a 68.5 degree HA with a 510mm fork. If you go by the rule of thumb that increasing the A/C one inch (25mm) equals a roughly 1 degree slacker HA, putting a 545mm fork on the Intense would put the HA very close to the Nomad's.

Nope. But you shouldn't have trouble selling it. Lots of 5 Spots still sporting Romic's out there.

Talking This is a hard one.... but:

Danny,

In order to be completely happy, you're going to have to win the lottery, or have a rich uncle die, or take up robbing banks... one bike will not do everything you want it to. I know that you know this ... and that you are trying to get a bike that will allow you to do some of the more extreme technical riding most aspire to after riding for a while. I'm a VPP fan (there, I said it!) I ride a Blur XC Classic (a kick a$$ XC trail bike) and an Intense 5.5 Pushed to 6" (so much fun... but heavier!) Each has its strengths and weaknesses & I love them both. Added to that is a Curtlo 29 SS (my current latest lover)... point being is that I don't depend upon one bike to be a do all be all bike... the Blur probably comes closest.

But, there is a reason that the Nomad won the coveted trail bike of the year with several of the bike rags in 2006. You really can't go wrong with either & you'd be happy with both... that said, I'd get the Nomad (that's really what you want anyway!) and ride the sh*t out of it... be happy grasshopper!

Haha, well put and thanks for the advice. Nomad = jack of all trades but master of none and I am willing to except that. I was about 90% sold on getting a Nomad before I even posted this thread, but I wanted to make sure there weren't any major drawbacks to the bike that I hadn't thought of before I pull the trigger. I have been doing my homework on what to get next for a month or two and just want to be sure, ya know. And like I said before I have ridden one and know that it is a pretty amazing bike (at least that is what I felt on 1 loop through Whiting), but I wanted to see what everyone else thought.
