Default My new Unit 2-9

This is a cross post with MTBR, but I find myself hanging out more on this forum lately so I thought I'd post here too.

I just got an 07 Unit 2-9 built up this weekend. It's my first SS since I was in grade school. After many months of saying "I don't understand what the big deal is with SS, just don't shift." I decided to give it a shot.

I went out for a Sunday ride with my son. Here are some pics.

The simpicity is what does it for me. I'm not into all that getting back to basics bs, I just want to not have to work on my bike when I get home or buy more things I broke. There is a benefit of picking up a little speed when you develop the leg strength too.

Yes we will have to meet and do a ride. I work a mile from (what some refer to as) Milf Park.

I was able to get out to Aliso during lunch today and did the "Up Cholla, down Mathis" loop. I love the geometry, it corners so well and is very stable yet responsive at slow speeds.

What's crazy is that I had to stop at all the same places I stopped when I first started mountain biking 2 years ago. 3 stops on cholla, and 1 stop on the Upper west ridge as it meets Mathis. Less than 1 hour of riding and I was exhausted!!!

Padre once said "When I ride a geared bike my legs are tired, when I ride SS my entire body is tired."

That pretty much sums it up.

I just warrantied my 2006 green unit 2-9. Great bike. Unfortunately the replacement frame color, purple, isn't my color. You will love the bike. Good stuff.... Keep on working on your climbing skills on the SS, pretty soon you won't stop at all....
