Default Busted My Gravity Dropper

Been riding with a Gravity Dropper for perhaps 4 months (I do love it…

I’d read the threads on ‘net; I knew they were prone to breaking, but I figured I ride smooth. Yea right.

Snap.

On an easy fire road ascent. But I am sure just a cumulative thing. It does wiggle, so the post goes through constant motion. But a snapped seat post is a sure ride-kill.

Anybody else busted theirs yet? I’ll try a replacement post (maybe have them send me a 3rd for when the 2nd busts). But if the 2nd one busts within 4-6 months, fukkit.

I've heared that GravityDropper will repair/replace a post for free, even after the warranty has expired, if it breaks the way you describe (since yours is only four months old, it should be covered by the warranty anyway).

You might want to take a picture of the problem and email it to them directly. I'm sure they will replace the broken part for no more than the cost of shipping. They are a small Montana-based company and depend on a good reputation.

I have a GravityDropper and absolutely love it

I can't imagine ever riding without one again. The 19mm inner post diameter does cause me a little anxiety but I check it regularly for any telltale signs of wear. I can't imagine that a single impact would cause the post to sheer right off; however, I'm no physicist and don't know what sort of stress it can absorb. I can't imagine the company would stay in business if this was a commonly occuring problem.

Still, I wouldn't wanna lose my junk (or parts thereof) as a result of a sudden pothole

I have a friend that has used one for a little over a year. He's on his third unit and he's had the same issue you've had. He absolutely loves his and won't ride without it anymore.

From what I have heard and read, probably never. Maybe that design won't work on a post diameter that small?

I had that little thing on the front that houses the pin and magnet break off a while back on mine. I contacted GD and they replaced it, cleaned it up, and shipped it all at no charge and turned it around very fast. They were also very nice to deal with. I would look at sending it back to them.

They're investigating it, but I think you're right that it won't work in such a small diameter.

What are the differences between the GD and Joplin?

Note when this thread was originally started. I think the OP got it sorted out (I would assume).
