If I read everything correctly, in order to create new routes, you have to pay $90 to download Geo Agent. Is that accurate?? Now that I have my new Edge 305, I would like to start creating routes in San Diego county since there are only like 4. However, I'm not about to lay down almost 100 bones to do it.
Is there a way to do it cheaper/for free?

The first 30 days is free, then its 90 bucks. I think its worth it, it keeps a great record of all your rides and its quite motivating to see your progress. There is no way around the money though, unless you are a hacker and can bybass the Geoladder police. Its also nice to see how you fare against others in riding a certain route, especially ones you created.

![]() Like I said, $90 is a lot of dough for something that is only giving me the ability to create new routes, over what I already have and use for free.

Something that hasn't been mentioned... geoLadders is totally local to OC and the last I heard they had hired one guy full time to help run the site and stuff. Doug, who started the site, is a really cool guy, and Justin and I both decided to help out the site by purchasing the annual license. We used GeoAgent as a beta for awhile for free and both really liked it.
It doesn't hurt to see if you'll use it by doing the free trial. If it's not your thing then you don't have to subscribe. We had used GeoLadders for about a year and a half before subscribing, so we knew it was something we liked! |

Dude in no way shape or form do you need to pay to create a route that you can get points for.
Download your GPS data to your computer, it should be a .GPX files, then in your profile (dashboard on the lower right hand side there is a button [Create/View Personal Routes] Click that. It will take you into a back end interface where you browse for your .GPX file Name the route and upload. It then creates a page for you. Sure if you want an "official" route then you need to take a SLOW ride with a camers and flag each turn and obsticle, as well as take a picture. THEN you can submit it for review. If everything is in the clear they should aprove the route within a week or so. but you can still rack up points without it being "approved". Paying the $90 for the geo agent allows you to download the GPX file for a route with all the turns and info on the map already, or get another users time data so you can do that nifty "race opponent thing" Long explanation short, you do NOT need to pay $90 to create a route. I realized that i didn't tell you that if you can't figure out how to get GPX files of your GPS. Go to Motionbased.com and create an account. You'll need to download a Client that will help you. It is pretty self explanatory on the site but if you need further help PM me and I'll walk you through it. you can chek out my User ID on geoladders ( ~ Pakiha ~ ) and if you see a trail that has a white background that is a Non-approved route that is personal to me.

i use motionbased.com. has most of the routes on geoladders, but takes a bit of time to find them as motionbased has tons of running, hiking and cycling routes. from there i download the trail, and put them into the garmin with garmins training center (free download). i'd prefer to use geoladders, but its NOT mac compatible...

Interesting reading.
I'm slightly confused because the Garmin website states that the Edge 305 does not have the ability to add maps. I'm confused! https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=331 |

Man, I dropped the 90 bucks for nothing? I'm on Geoladders (Aus Rotten) and had no idea you could load rides without spending the money. Its a great site but the high scorers overlap there posts to get more points. I had to get the Garman because there are haters on the site that dont believe the ride you say you do. I do Fullerton loop then ride over to Chino and do northridge and southridge and ride back to my car at fullerton court house and was accused of driving to chino! My money's spent but if you can upload with out paying then thats great.

You can load rides but not directly from your Edge like you do with geoagent.
Not all the high scorers overlap their posts. Some of us just ride 120-200 miles per week. I've just been climbing the road ladder for the last couple of months so I've dropped down a couple of spots on the dirt ladder. The only way to keep people from calling you a cheater is to use geoagent and upload your rides so they're viewable. When I joined last year, people were calling BS on my rides also. As far as doubling, I'm of the opinion that they should only allow one personal route per day. That would cut down on all the BS routes being put up by some people for the game. And "Rails to Trails" rides wouldn't count as mountain biking either.

The real challenge I'm looking at is to make top 10 on both ladders in the same month. I did 1000 points on both a couple of months ago. Got to keep it interesting.

Oh no you diddnt......Its hard to neglect my off season road miles but I need to stay on the road, I'll thro some dirt in to stay on the dirt ladders when I can. I posted a road ride from LB to el morro dirt loop on both the dirt side and the road side...A couple high point overlappers on the dirt side freaked and PM'ed me that I cant do that. I told them its 2 differents ladders. Oh well.
