For those of you who haven't met me yet I'm Jesse
and those of you who have been out to the Loop the past few weeks probably know who I am (if not click on my myspace link). But here's my scenario: I recently started riding my 04 Specialized Rockhopper Comp which was out of commission for a while but I finally got it fixed (new Shimano LX crankset) and have begun to ride on the group ride at the Loop Thursday nights. Well after just 2 rides Dino and I make the observation that my fork has sprung some type of leak and basically I bottom out on my fork WAY too easily. So basically what I'm asking is... DOES ANYONE HAVE A FRONT FORK LYING AROUND THEY WANNA SELL ME FOR CHEAP? I weigh 230 lbs (pretty big i guess for mountain biking) so I'm looking for something that can withstand my weight. I'm a college student so I'm not rolling in the dough right now and I just need something that'll get me back on the trails. Here's the stats on my old fork: Manitou Axel Elite fork with an Cr-Mo steerer and 100mm(17-23" frame size) of coil-sprung, adjustable rebound travel and pic of my bike: ![]() So if you know where to get a front suspension fork for cheap or if you want to help me out please message me as it would be much appreciated -THANKS P.S. Moderators- If I posted this in the wrong thread let me know and I'll delete and relocate to proper location. |

Hey Jessie Gene here, How long is your steering tube? I have a Marzocchi bomber that came off my Rocky Mtn. The steerer is only 7 1/4" long so it may not fit your frame, I would let you use it to see if you like it. I'll be at the loop this Thurs, I'll bring it.

at your size, i'd stick with a coil sprung fork. not sure if genes is air sprung or not, but i think you be well off with a marzocchi z1 perhaps.

You can ride air OK. I am a clyde and prefer coil, but I started out on an air fork and it was fine.
The adjustability is easy with air. |

Jesse- measure the steerer tube. Another thing, do you have spacers above/below your stem?
** The only thing funnier than watching a 230lb. "newb" (go "over the falls" for the first time) and splintering a tree with his body is having him ask (for help) getting out of that tree. Bonus points for doing so while hanging upside down!!! Thanks for the good laugh Jesse! ![]() ![]() |

not sure if that ol' judy will be all that much better than his current fork though eh. might not be worth the trouble of swapping everything out. and then doing it again when the new one arrives.

Ok so it looks like there are quite a few people who can probably help me!
![]() Gene: I know nothing about steerer tubes n' such so if you could please bring the fork this thursday to the loop and we can take a look to see if your fork can possibly fit my bike. Boats: Do you know how stiff your fork is? It would be quite a waste of time and effort to have to put on your fork on my bike only to find out its equally as soft as my current fork and then have to swap them back out again. Bring it on thursday n-e-wayz and we'll see if maybe it'll work. ChumbaJason: I will be emailing you and if you can find a fork that fits my bike and can give it to me for a good price then hopefully we can work something out ![]() Thanks everyone for trying to help me out and if anyone else (on the forums) can still help me out then feel free to message me. |

Hmmm... Pike you say? The KID has already been telling me it may be time for a "NEW" bike! If only I can get him to stop (foolishly) spending his money on cars and women- he may have enough to do just that! Time will tell. |

Manitou Axel Elite
I know this is a cheap fork, that is used to put on mostly entry level bikes, but how can they do this? It basically takes away from what a decent fork would do, and tells a newb, that riding with suspension isn't much different then riding rigid. These freekin forks don't work. I bet they have turned more people off from riding, then crashes. My first bike had a Judy on it and I remember thinking this thing doesn't work. True, I was more used to motorcycles, but this POS didn't even dampen. First upgrade I made was to a better fork/shock that worked. If only the bike companies would realize that they need to put something a little better then these type of forks, they'd have more customers and they'd ride longer, which would mean they'd be buying more parts.
