Default Vacation suggestions for Tahoe?

The wife & I have some vacation time coming up, but the budget is tight. We're considering a road trip to Tahoe for a primarily non-mtb trip (I might manage to sneak in a little riding). The South shore in or near the casinos is preferred, but definitely not mandatory. A couple years ago we found a good deal on a nice room at Harvey's, but this time we're not finding nearly the bargains.

Any suggestions on good value places to stay? A room that is clean & quiet (ie: not surrounded by frat boys on a weekend bender) is the starting point: View, amenities, etc are all gravy.

And if I do any riding, it'd probably just be one day. I'd be solo and I'd rent a bike there, so suggestions for rentals and group/guided rides are also appreciated. I might be able to convince her to ride with me (she's done a little) if we did a non-technical shuttle ride.

Thanks in advance.

Tahoe and cheap logging...hard to find. In the thick of summer tourist season it can even get hard to find a place to stay. You can always get a room in Reno or Gardnerville and drive over for the day. Will be cheaper than Tahoe.

Bike Rentals and Flume Shuttle service. $100 a night and you can rent the walkin/ridein cabins at Spooner Lake and ride right out of your doorstep, they have some openings. See the Flume Link.

Check Craigslist. You may have to check the SF one, but there are generally a few listings.

Hi, I just came across this site and noticed this thread while browsing. I grew up in SoCal, but now live in South Lake.

Check in with Sierra Cycle Works or Wattabike for rentals and trail beta. You'll be hard pressed to find finer shops anywhere. Great guys running great little shops.
