Gravity is your friend

I got the approval from my finance manager (the wife) to get into the full suspension world... after riding my budget hardtail to its limited limits, i would really enjoy the full.
Question as I begin my search for a new bike, are there any sub $1,000 bikes worthy of riding??? My typical riding is Fullerton Loop, Chino Hills State park (telegraph, south ridge, etc)... nothing tooo extreme yet. Any thoughts or suggestions on bikes and places to shop would be greatly appreciated.... paul |

figure out if you want to stick to more of xc riding, or if you want to get more into all-mountain riding, the latter being the more aggressive of the two. if you want to go bigger, i'd recommend a bike with at least 5 inches of travel. if you want to stick to xc, then get something with 4 inches of travel. as far as brand goes, most bikes in the $1000 range will have a solid frame, the components on the other hand wont be that great. ride a bunch of them, see what feels best, and buy it. one last thing, its better to step up and upgrade to a higher up model at the time of purchase rather than upgrading down the line. you'll spend way more money if you wait.
as a side note, the "search" feature is your friend. there are quite a few threads on this board with this same topic. good luck with your purchase. and if you have more questions, just ask. everyone here is very helpful and we all ride just about every bike that is out there on the market, so our opinions might be slightly biased, but our opinions also come from years of experience on different bikes and products. ::cough:: get the kona ::cough::
