Default Fullerton Loop: Danger

Considering some of you are going on a newbie ride in a few days, I thought some of you should know about this:

In Laguna Lake Park, the south side, just before you get to the concrete drainage ditch, is a single track that goes through the trees. Just before you enter the clearing for the drainage ditch, the single track goes past TWO TREES.

Directly in the trail, exactly across from each tree, there are now big holes. I was going too fast to look closely, but it appears that someone dug the holes so they would be right in the shadow of the trees.

If you're riding over your head, you might end up getting your face dirty.

Maybe the holes were made by squirrels, but considering their location, I doubt it. Either way, you might not see them until the last moment.

Beware. Ride safe.

Hey thanks for the heads up. I can almost picture the spot you're describing, but I haven't ridden the Loop enough times. I will keep my eyes peeled though around the Lake (and past it). Thanks again--

You'll want to keep 'em peeled before the lake, if you ride the Loop in the usual clockwise manner. The holes in question are approx. 150-200 yds. before the street (Clarion Dr.) on the south side of the lake itself.

I'm pretty close, and will try to do something about it tomorrow if it's still worked.

Thanks, we rode the big rig with our son on Monday night and the holes were not there. Then when I took my son out on Tuesday on my single BAMMM 2 holes right in the shade of the single track around the trees. This is really starting to piss me off. I have filled in the holes next to the concrete ditch more times than I can remember and just when I thought that the a-hole had givenn up.....it was almost a serious problem with my son in the trailer and the holes in the shade of the trees. I'm going to try to get over there today to again fill in the holes. I would love to catch this person in the act......you can bet that they would need the services of St Jude!!!

It's amazing how fast these people work. It changes daily to the point where I'm automatically slowing down in that area. Not cool people!

I seriously doubt that it's horse people, horses can break a leg if they put their foot in a hole, and then have to be put down. Horse people would not do that.

Cat people - stand back. They might huck up a furball on ya......

Seriously, if someone's not paying attention and blows through there and hurts themselves, can't the person who dug the holes be held liable for any damages and injuries?

More than that, they can also be criminally charged if caught.

Oh yeah, it's a mission -

- get out the new camo ghilly suit
- set up above the trail and blend in with the shrubs
- IFR bino's and camera
- yeah, maybe the trail cam too
- bring some hanging rope
- someone lend me that Fully Loop Tazer
- set up a cooler with some Sierras
- wait for the perps to show............

.........after they're caught, tie 'em up, lay 'em out flat and let Nam practice his hucking skills over their soft bellies

Carbonman, you can just ride over 'em.

O.K. it's 12:30 Wed. and I took my son for a walk around the lake and filled in the holesover on the single track by the horse ring. Let's keep an eye out and see how long the stay filled in. My wife and I are taking our son out on the loop tonite around 6:00-6:30 and we'll see if the holes are still filled in.

This morning I emailed the parks and recreation director and the chief of police, explaining the ongoing problem.

The chief wrote back, saying that he would send patrols to the area in an attempt to apprehend or at least scare off the criminals.

Later, I got a voice mail from an investigator expressing his concern. Apparently the cops use the trail as well, so he's familiar with the area. He said that he would notify the parks department regarding the need to fill in the holes.

Figured someone would get out there earlier, but went prepared just in case. Nicely done, carbonman.

Since I'd brought tools, buckets, and water, I dug a little of the organic stuff out and replaced it with some plain dirt hauled up from below. Added a little water as I went, so hopefully it'll compact and firm up a bit. If it lasts, that is.

Keep us posted. I'll be curious to see if the little $hits give up or, more likely, move their shenanigans elsewhere on the trail.

Well I'm happy to report that as of 7:30 Wed the holes are still filled in and the trail was great, thanks Ladd for reworking the fill in job. Lets hope that the schmucks that are doing all the digging give it a rest and move on to destroying something else, maybe m80s in mailboxes maybe not.
