Default OT: Running

Does anyone in south oc run/jog often? I am not a fast runner but I am getting more into it for crosstraining purposes. I did two 5K races over the past couple weeks and its been fun. Just wondering if anyone ever wants to change things up a bit drop me a PM sometime.

We have a South County Tri Club that you can tag along with. We typically run around Lake MV. Usually are runs are tied in with swimming/biking but if you wanted to just run that would be fine. we run both trails and street. I live in RSM and most of the guys live and/or work in RSM as well.

I think *rt* says it best...

If we were intended to run, no one would've invented the bicycle.

Thanks. I dont know about keeping up with TRI people though as my 5K time is in the 28min range. I am by means not fast but trying to get faster. I think the MV loop is just over 3 miles, correct? Havent run over there yet. I would like to meet some new people that are into it though.

we have all speeds, dont worry about that, and different training on different days, sometimes its shorter timed runs, longer slow runs, track training, hill climbs, all kinds of ish. 5 of us are doing the Camp Pendleton Mud Run this weekend so its not just tri races either.

If you want to do a really fun run, check out the monthly schedule here: Socal HHH

They also do bike rides (I posted one here a few weeks ago called BOHICA). The bike rides are mostly done by runners.

I can assure you that you don't need to be a fast runner. Heck, with how things work, you could probably keep up if you run half of it. Total distance is usually no more than 4 miles, but there are a lot of stopping points. Beyond that, I can't explain everything. You have to try it. Or if you want a bunch of reading, here is the complete story: Hash House Harrier Information

By the way, this is a worldwide group, so you can do a run with a group anywhere in the world.

yeah i stopped running after running cross country my soph and junior year...
no fun at all, for me at least... escepcialy racing at Mt sac and other so cal spots..

but i can say i was pretty fast for a big guy, 5:20 fastest mile and 17:40 fastest 3mi xc course....

i'm thinking of gettin back into it but with my low bp i cant go very far w/o stopping or else i'll pass out, not good for the knees either

I have heard rumors (haven't personally looked at any studies on this yet) that running, with correct form is not bad for your knees.

I just signed up for this fun run. It's free, I found it in Competitor. It's a 5k run/scavenger hunt. Check it out.

PUMA Pursuit

I used to hate running but having a goal (5k, 10k and now 1/2 marathons) makes it more enjoyable for me. Look on Active for running groups or Competitor. That's how I found my 1/2 marathon running group. They are in NOC but I recall seeing groups all over OC.

Also Peter's Canyon is having a summer running series that are 5k. I think those are listed at renegade racing.

Im a training for 2 half tri's I signed up for this summer. I just started running a couple weeks ago. I usually just run in my neigborhood or down at San Clemente beach on the trail.

Hey Skeeter does the South OC Tri Club have a website or training schedule available??

But I'll tell ya, it sure sucked climbing Blackstar to have a runner go sprinting by me, then pass me in the opposite direction after he returned from the top (I could see him up there at one point). Those ultra marathon runners deserve respect (100 mile races in the hills that would make the Vision Quest a training run).

I ride bikes so that I don't have to do exercise that involves my feet being on the ground, you're just asking for trouble! If you ever want to see a really funny sight, it's me at a Super D race with a LeMans style start, I'll have to have someone video it sometime.
