Having had now 3 EBB single speeds (2 set screw, 1 bushnell), 1 sliding dropout version, and now 1 with an eccentric rear hub, i will take the eccentric hub. Never been a fan of EBBs...and yes, have had good ones, just dont like em. Sliders are ok but why? Granted only had about 4 rides on the new bike but man, the ecc rear hub is a brilliant invention! So much easier to adjust than any other type of tensioner....plus, its great cuz you can stop focusing on what type of SS frame you want and just use any frame, SS or otherwise.
Freewheels, cogs...whatever. I have a sweet ACS freewheel remover and its never been hard to remove the freewheel and i prefer freewheels for sure (so long as its an ENO freewheel). Never had a problem with a chainline setup???? anyway, bikes are all good....just go with what YOU want to do, not what any of us Yahoos recommend! Quote:

...and for the bushnell type of EBB's, you always have Carver as a replacement- the delrin sleeve works like a charm.

I have a split EBB on my Salsa SS and it has worked flawless.
Not a peep of it. I heard rumors that they can creak for a cleaned it thoroughly and greased the crap out of it. You never have to deal with wheel alignment and that is great. If you get a EBB bike pull out the EBB and look at how it works so when you have to loosen it later to change cogs or replace your chain you know how it works. You have to loosen it up till it pushes the wedge out so it releases. You will see what I mean when you check it out. |
