Default My new vintage gheyness

mostly newer non-vintage stuff, but for me its a big step in the right (vintage) direction and the closest thing to a "budget" build I have done in a long time.

I guess technically, the only old-ish stuff is the frame and stem, but still.....got it together today and will be riding tomorrow morning....cant wait!!!

So contributing to the current top 10 list (still ongoing) of all things ghey are (in no particular order at this point):

* gears
* 29ers
* disc brakes
* suspension
* frames made in this century

..to name a few

Some miscellaneous shots I got in between running kid and wife errands this evening.

Shot of rear dropout (obviously)...kewl cuz is says GT

Another GT stamp on frame

Oh my! I LOVE the feel of these levers/brakes....I was shocked to have a disc-like sensation (on the street ride anyway)

More brake stoke...front and rear, to include sweet fork which i think i am gonna love!

I gotta say, I LOVE the bars. HUGE PROPS to Seven....only 2 weeks for custom bars. Unheard of nowadays where people are waiting ridiculous amounts of time for custom stuff and heck, even for a lot of non-custom stuff. I speced 27" bars with 10 deg sweet and am stoked for sure. Also note the sweet Titec 130mm Ti stem my man Chad hooked me up with. it is perfect for this setup!

And the 2006 XTR 960 cranks I picked up....pserisouly stoked on the polished cranks with cut down outer chainring single speed look

and some random bike pics.

and i still have original stickers in the bag....dont think i will put them on. looks nice as is.

the ONLY thing I see changing is perhaps a Ti seatpost, but thats it and of course cutting the steerer tube as appropriate so as to have less spacers as well....once I settle in to the right height for the front.

I'd swap out that front chainring...it says it was made in Canuckistan!

Nice!

you can shave weight dropping the stickers, however if mtb bikes are anything like dirtbikes then a stickercharger kit, although ghey, will make you faster.

Nice Zaskar ! The geo on that bike is the benchmark for all MTBs'. Never rode a better handling machine.

thanks dawg.

actually, it is a Xizang and not a zaskar. got it new from the actual builder who worked in boulder at GT back in the day. he held on to some suff which I guess he is now unloading.

My bad the ti version had that cool name with odd spelling. But it is the same geo , great ride for sure. My cousins Xizang ( polished ti) got me to buy my Psyclone (also from boulder).

Got an 18" Psyclone in his garage? Would love to replace what the theives got from me.

May be a dumb question but what do you do to control chain tension? I have and old Fat Chance I wanted to convert to SS but it also has vertical dropouts.

This set up is either magic gear combo or half link.

Example of a magic gear combo : 38/19 fits even links on a 16.75" chainstay.

PS the Pauls brakes fix that annoying u-brake rear the xang had. Nice
