As a kid growing up in Orange County I used to hike all over any area that wasn't built. The back areas of the Irvine ranch were some of our favorite haunts. (Whiting Ranch now) They would let you in if you told them where you were going and when you planned on leaving. We didn't hike to much around Holy Jim and Trabuco as these were mostly hippie hangouts and the drugs were everywhere, cops too. We would go out and find snakes everywhere, there used to be so many more. I once caught a rattler that was more sand in color and I took it home and made a pet out of it. Things went good for about 3 or 4 months till one day my older sister came in my room and the stupid snake starting rattling. All hell broke lose and my mom ran out of the house. My dad came in from the garage where he was working and heard my mom screaming about the snake my dad knew I kept in my room. He went in picked up the aquarium took it outside, flipped it upside down, out came the snake and my dad stopmed him to death. Broke my heart and I got an ass whoopin like you wouldn't believe.
