I'm sure a lot of you get the Warrior's Society News, but thought I'd post this to help get the word out as much as possible.
One of our supporters, David St.Germain, had a major burglary at his house located in Mission Viejo off Alicia. David thinks his bikes will end up in other parts of the country but asked us if we could warn people to keep their eyes open for the following it would be appreciated. His advice: LOCK UP YOUR BIKES, YOUR GARAGE IS NOT SAFE. 1. Titanium Tuscany Litespeed 49" - Dur Ace comps, Krysirium wheels, specialized saddle, old Ultegra pedals 2. Titanium King Kahuna Kona hard tail - XTR comps, Green Atom bomber front fork - rare 3. Silver King Kikapu Kona Full suspension - XTR 03 components - note rims don't match, silver/gold headset, blue onza climbing bars 4. Silver UHU Kona Full suspension - Chris King red hubs, silver/gold headset 5. Blue Single speed A Kona Full suspension - rare one of a kind. All these bikes are unique and customized and he would not be surprised if they swap stuff around to make them look different. Here is how they got into the garage and a description of the suspects and their vehicles: They came in through the open bedroom window at 3:00 p.m., besides the five bikes, they went through the house and helped themselves to a lot of goodies - electronics and anything small of value. His home owners insurance only pays $1,500 for the loss of the bikes All doors were locked and they were in the house for 20 perhaps 30 minutes. They were driving a blue Civic or Mazda with gold spoked rim wheels - two guys about 19 or 20, one white, and one dark skinned and both with a crew cut. The car had extensive damage on both sides - rear panels. They have no idea who they were, but it was well planned out and they must have known Dave had bikes. Dave's advice is to do this today: 1. Take pictures of all your bikes. 2. Keep receipts and serial numbers in a safe file not on your computer because they are gonna steal that. 3. Check your home owners insurance and make absolutely sure all your bikes are covered. 4. Let your neighbors know that there has been an increase in crime and to keep an eye out for strange activity. I told them nothing leaves my property or comes onto my property without me. Call 911. If you have any information contact Dave at: David.R.StGermain@saint-gobain.com

Harden The F*** Up!!

That's too bad. This is eerily similar to a crime in San Diego recently: 5 bikes stolen from North Park garage 5 Bikes STOLEN out of San Diego Garage - Mtbr.com Forums
I asked my insurance agent if I needed extra coverage for my bikes and he said that they were considered miscellaneous personal property and would be covered. I needed receipts, etc of course, but there was no limit to how much I would get re-imbursed. I also keep all my bikes locked up in my garage. Not just for a break-in while I'm gone, but also because my kids are always playing outside and leaving the garage door open. I don't need someone walking by, seeing the bikes and deciding they don't feel like walking anymore...

hhhhmmm, doesn't JamR have a Kona fs blue ss?
Naw, just kidding that really sucks. Guys like this usually get caught, but usually after the stuff has been sold for a couple of bags of dope.

I assume coverage varies depending on your insurance company. Fortunately we were able to cover all our bikes under our renters/ home owner's policy at a price we set.

Ill keep an eye out at the shop and let everyone there know. We have had some sketchy dudes come in in the past asking how much is this bike worth or if we buy bikes and you can tell they dont ride.

Ya, I get the WS news as well. I live in Mission Viejo off of Alicia as well and it really makes me think on how nothing is safe. If you leave your garage open, like what happened to Matt, the arsholes may not steal it then but it gives them a chance to scope what's in it and wait till your not home. Best to just keep it close at all times I guess. I'll keep a copy of the bikes and suspects descriptions with me and keep an eye out as well.

Man, that makes my heart ache for David. I've been ripped off in various ways over the years, including a truck stolen while a surfboard and some golf clubs were hidden in the back. That feeling of violation is horrible, and it's got to be 10 times worse when the creeps are inside your house like that and then they steal your babies that you've been through so much with.
This also has me a little freaked out right now. We just had a garage sale, and I was feeling a little odd about the fact that my bikes were visible in the back of the garage, along with several surfboards, some tools, etc. Time to go invest in a kick-a** lock for the bikes while they're in there. It's also a reminder to call my insurance agent and see about raising our coverage, which was established 8 or 9 years ago. We don't have much, but we have more than that policy covers.

What you could do *IF* you own the house your living in, is find a good spot near where you store your bikes and cement in a fat steel hoop into the floor then take a long cable(I got a 30' from Home Depot pretty cheap) and weave it in and out of each bike and through the wheels then lock that up.
If you rent your house or dont want to drill into the floor, fill a 5 gallon bucket with cement and do the same thing as above..... Its not perfect, but it might keep someone from wanting to deal with dragging 1-5 bikes and a tub of concrete out of your garage...

Anyone else think that maybe it wouldn't be possible to fit five bikes in a Honda Civic? Surely they had a larger car than that to steal five bikes. Even with the wheels off I don't think that'd fit.
Major bummer for the owner. Good luck in the recovery. |
