Fire burning at Camp Pendleton

Smoke seen in south Orange County is from 750-acre blaze ignited by training exercise, officials say.

By SALVADOR HERNANDEZ
The Orange County Register
The smoke is visible from Orange County, but the fire is burning in the middle of Camp Pendleton's training ground, officials said.
About 750 acres have burned because of a fire that caused during training at the base Monday night, said Bill Gick, fire inspector with the Camp Pendleton Fire Department.
It was not immediately known when the fire would be extinguished, Gick said.
The visible smoke generated a few calls from residents to the Orange County Fire Authority, said Capt. Steve Miller.
"We have it handled," Gick said. "It's in an area where no structures are threatened."

I was in San Diego today and it was in the hills behind the Border Check Point on Camp Pendelton. Was out when I came back through at 3pm.

I passed four fires since I left work. One in the hills behind us towards Riverside/Lake Matthews area, next was over by the 91 and McKinnley the next east of us, probably the Berdoo fire and a small one starting over in Alta Loma somewhere's Looked to be over by Tom C's house.

My sister lives on Los Feliz. She just called and said that the fire is a block away and they just shut down the street.
Strange days indeed........

Same up here in Morro Bay. Today while out riding I came across a group of guys from the CA Conservation Corps working to cut down a lot of the dry brush. Several local trails are closed too. Looks like it's going to be a hot summer....

Not good. I already have three road trips planned this summer, may have to schedule more just to ride.

If they're closing National Forest land due to fire danger all that will be closed as well.

We'll all need to go to Oregon for riding

Closer is Flagstaff and Kaibab National Forest (Rainbow Rim, Grand Canyon) during the Summer Monsoons, June thru August.

Flagstaff, Mt. Elden, usually closes in a few weeks then reopens after the rain comes. They just had rain last weekend so maybe no closure this year.
