Default Mountain King snake

I was out scouting an old trail to see how ridable it is and I came across this guy. I think it is a Mountain King. I have seen many King snakes up here but never one this color. He was more agressive that the California Kings. STjunkie, I was checking out the trail that you were trying to find up near Johnsondale.

Yep, that's a Mountain King. Here's a baby one I caught on the Holy Jim trail a while back.

They're beautiful snakes.

A helpful rhyme goes, "red touch yellow, kill a fellow; red touch black, good for Jack." The red rings of the coral borders the yellow. The red of the king snake borders the black. Also, the coral has a black nose, the king snake a red nose.

Default The King of all snakes

Nice pics, thanks. I have seen pictures of a King Snake actaully swallowing a rattler. I guess that's why they are the king of all snakes.

Courtesy of the Calif. DFG. I've come across several people over the years getting ticketed for not having a fishing license while catching reptiles and amphibians.
