Some of the trails are re-opened.

From the ocparks website:

Santiago Oaks Regional Park will reopen more of its trails effective Saturday, April 21, 2007. Once these trials reopen most of the park will be open to the public. However, all single track trails will remain closed in the hills for evaluation, repair and re-vegetation.

The following trails will reopen:
 Oak Trail
 Peralta Hills Trail
 Anaheim Hills Trail
 Barham Ridge Trail

“Park staff is still working with volunteers from the mountain bike and equestrian communities to further improve all trails. Work will continue for quite some time,” said Parker Hancock, Director, HBP. “Trail signs are still being readied and placed in their proper locations. We feel the above mentioned multi-use trails can be opened at this time to meet the needs of the public. In addition, we still ask the community to respect the wilderness and stay out of the burned areas.”

I guess if the fire roads are open, you could just ride up and down the Three B's a bunch of times. That sounds like fun, no?

are the b's part of the fireroad system?
I don't mind them plus I could check out the damage....haven't been over there yet.

I'm thinking the same, and might try that ride later in the week. I'll try to find out and post an answer if I do.

So....translate the trail names....

Is Chutes open?
Geoladders -- Santiago Oaks: Chutes

Is Waterfall Open?
Geoladders -- Santiago Oaks: Waterfall

Is Anaheim Hills/Weir Canyon Open?
Geoladders -- Anaheim Hills - Weir Canyon

I would think Chutes & Waterfall would definitely be closed, which would also eliminate that Weir loop since it ends on Chutes. Without the shrubbery, Waterfall stands out like a huge scar right now.

A friend told me that part of the reason for the singletrack closure is so that some of the singletrack sections can be restored to their original or intended locations. Don't know where that info came from or what sections it might refer to. Anyone have input?

So when is the whole lop going to be open?
The fire roads are not so fun.

Here you go......

April 28, 2007

SHARE - trail work
8:00 AM to 1:00 PM
WHAT: SHARE Trail Work
WHERE: Santiago Oaks Regional Park
Orange, CA
Single Day Event

More than likely I'll be there, at least for the first couple of hours. My youngest girl has softball at 11:00 am.

As for what's open.... here's what I've heard;

The Oak Trail ( Three "B's") are open, along with the singletrack the leads down from the top to Barham Ridge, that's the ridge that goes over to Chutes, are open. And yes from what I understand, Chutes is open.

Waterfall, BobCat and ALL of the other singletrack trails are still closed.
