Default Cow Saddle Canyon

I was up at Baldy today and took a drive on GMR. I noticed that the parking area at Cow saddle was posted no parking. Where are you guys parking when you ride there?

I noticed the same thing today when we arrived by bike. I biked around to make the return and went thru that cuttout there. A sheriff SUV was pulling out and a passenger car was pulling out the other side. I asked "what gives" and the guy in the car said the cop told him that it was private property there and because it was posted if they parked there they'd get a ticket or even possibly towed away.

The landowner up there is a real tool. I understand it's his property, but why can't he just let people park there? He has an RV park a little further down the road and watches to see who either drives or rides a bike down it. He kind of pulled a rifle on us once when we went down the road trying to get back to Azusa canyon. Stepped out of his truck with his rifle and told us we were trespassing and if we ever came back he'd place us under citizens arrest and see that we were fined for it.

Last time I rode there we when into the RV Park and asked and were granted permission to park on the road leading to the RV Park. Dirty offered to pay and they said no need, he just asked that we check in with him before parking. That was 4-5 months ago, maybe things have changed.

My understanding is that the big turnout/parking area needs to be clear to land helicopters...thats the story we were told.

You shouldn't have a problem if you park across the street from the lot, though you're right on the edge of the cliff & you need an adventure pass at that point.

You also could just park down at the village and ride up the pavement to the trailhead if you're heading up to Sunset Peak.

The trail that goes down the Canyon is totally off limits, I've heard the stories of guns getting pulled on people.
