I have a Turner, but I bought it used. I guess that makes me a Secondhand Whore!
Ride em all and buy what works best. Keep in mind that if this is your first serious bike, it's one to grow on. Get a great frame, but don't get too obsessed with the components - you can upgrade to your taste & budget as you go along.

You cannot go wrong with a Specialized bike. I love my FSR and have done a few upgrades to make it an even better bike. Great all around feel for XC and some AM stuff too. I tried several Ironhorse bikes and they were all heavy and felt clunky to me. The Trek is also a nice bike tried one of those out too. When it came down to it based on the frame geometry and components and how I felt on the bike I went to Spec. Go ride them all if you can.

Don't be a special guy! I would take a serious look at whatever wheelworld has from Giant in stock. The maestro suspension is a derivative of the VPP linkage and works really well. Kona's are good durable bikes that work well too. Turners are in a class of their own. I have had three Turners, one of the best frames made, backed by a good company.

ah so many splinters in our would...all mountain vs. xc, a few pounds? giving other options, the Dawg is xc, i think. 1200.00 budget just looking out. $10,000.00 will get you that fancy ass Ellesworth, yes ten thousand
foot note: my 2001 bullit (6" travel) at the time was "free ride" now a bike with 6" of travel is all mountain |

Hell, for all I know, the Kona Coiler is the right bike for the OP. For me, it would be more bike than I want. I don't do hucks or stuff like that. I like to keep both my wheels on the ground as much as possible. But, I do like to go fast uphill. I think if I buy a new bike it'll be in the XC category. But, by then they'll have all new terms to confuse and splinter us.

it's cool... there is an article in Mountain bike action that puts 5 different Turners against each other to find "the perfect bike", XC to "black diamond". (You Homers Would like to read it)
anyhow it really reflects how lame the bike companies are and how they like to spilt and divide riders. (i read between the lines.) it was informative on how the bikes performed under what conitions. there is an XC Turner that states the weight limit of the rider is like 160lbs!! to the RFX in which the writer has smart ass comments about someone who pedals such a heavy bike, like "yeah you proved your strong" then another part of the magazine is the fashion you must have to be a mountain bike rider, Fox this ,Oakley that...how about shorts, t-shirt and old vans...helmet too. i'm just rambling...my point is, as a famous rider put it..."can't we all just ride along?" |

Let's cut to the chase. Buy the Turner now and you'll save yourself a lot of grief wishing you had bought one first.
Hell, I ain't a Tuner HO, I'm the Turner pimp daddy! And yes, that was a good one Frank. Glen must have you on ignore, cause he didn't even reply to that one.

I'm using the same logic, but I think I'm going to buy an Epiphany (or maybe a Turner). I want to start with something really nice, even though it's expensive, because I can build around it. Kind of like what the Lakers did with Shaq!!! ![]() |
