Took the Blur to my fave Aliso this afternoon after work...found **** park. NO eye candy for the ladies no fair what's up with that!! (not that my guy isn't candy enough) but you guys have all the luck there
. Fun ride as usual...left around 5 heading down Alicia Parkway no real traffic stopped at a light with two turn lanes to the left of me and THUMP!! A guy getting into those lanes clipped my bike hard enough to break the strap holding it onto the left arm leaving the rack a bit askew /bike angled to car. Briefly got out to see...had to pull up behind him to ask him to pull over so I could check for damage. Not a good sign that his nice car was riddled with past collisions...OK?? Now add black tire marks on his passenger side mirror... So long story short agreed to stop...no bike damage no problem...took his license # and went on our way but funny thing he said several times "I saw your car but not the bike?" Said I should put something visible on the tire. Uh huh..K. The bike sticks out to one side just under a foot I'd guess no other way to get it to fit...really should it be flagged? Can't remember the DMV rules and have any of you actually had damage occur to bikes from being hit from behind. Curious others experiences with non-riding related damages. My worst nightmare is seeing it bouncing behind me on the freeway...happened to my buddy when their hitch rack worked it's way up. All in all concider myself lucky no harm done to the bike...pics of rack and strap. |

Your mirror sticks out a bit, too, BTW. If I remember correctly, the vehicle can not be more than 105 inches wide. Good thing that all is well. |

Bottom line - If he hits you from behind, it's his fault.
Glad your bike is well. |

I'm glad your bike's ok. Regardless of the requirements of the law, it might be a good idea to tie a brightly colored rag around the wheels.
That moron who ran into you the other day certainly isn't the only one on the road looking to ruin your day. And even if he IS at fault, he could be without insurance or he could try to weasel out of it. Even WORSE, you might not be able to ride that day! Rob |

Sounds like you got lucky. When I had a rear bike rack on my car there were a few close calls from drivers that obviously weren't paying attention and came close to hitting the rack with my bikes on it. After the last close call I put a bunch of reflective stickers on the rack and it seemed to make a big difference. You might want to get a couple of those luggage tags, plaster it with some reflective stickers and attach them to your wheels when you're driving.

Shannon your avi is creeping me out!! Thanks guys...I have a roll of bright orange tape I might keep in the car to tie on sometimes. It was daylight...how do you NOT see a bike...haha. He was nervously close to hit that? Oh well...better safe than sorry.

If your rack is broken, I have my old one from my Jetta if you want or need it? Sorry to hear about that. What a bummer.
