In the event that it even matters, I'll summarize my perspective: Good guys: Take care of 'em, give 'em your patronage, forgive innocent mistakes. Crooks: Avoid 'em at all costs. What might seem like a sweet deal will always turn bitter. If you inadvertently get hosed by a crook, attempt to chop 'em off at the knees and show no mercy. My local shop? They take care of me and sometimes come up with unbeatable deals. In exchange, I try to give them as much business as practical, rather than going to some online distributor or cross-town competitor to save a dollar or two. I'm big on convenience and service and want them to stay in business. So anyway, I hope your new bike comes in soon and it works out well for you. Rob |

I'm genuinely sorry we couldn't tone down the bold rhetoric.
After all this, I stand by my position and I'm grateful that I'm the kind of person who does not try to gain the advantage as the result of an unfortunate misunderstanding. You have shown your willingness to manipulate someone who has bent over backwards to help you. Now you know who I am, and I know who you are. I thank you for the opportunity to speak up in defense of honesty and what is right. Rob |

Just chaulk this one up. Enjoy the bike!!! I think we have all been there on some type of bike purchase or warranty deal. You'll forget about it when the big I got a new bling bike smile hits your face. Personally, I would buy a bike from some one locally so that if anything went wrong during soon after the purchase let alone the purchase itself. I don't know how many people I have heard from the bought bikes on-line or drove miles to find out that the drops are bent, te frame is mis-alinged, the reach is too far, or the frame is scratched or on and on... it's the chance you take going that route... chaulk it up. The LBS wants to take care of the local guy b/c if they do he's back for more. Not criticizing your choice...it's my learning experience too!

i hear ya matt. the problem lies within where i live, long beach. unfortunately there arent any close kona dealers to the lbc. the path is just as far south/east of me as wheel world is north of me. i'm all for supporting local shops and all that good stuff. my LBS, "jones" on 2nd street specializes in beach cruisers and comfort bikes, and only carry GIANT in the mt. bike realm. i'm jonzing to hit the dirt on my new coiler! wheel world has done well in my book to accomodate me and i thanked yan numerous times before leaving the shop on tuesday...i just realized that i gave my last 26" tube to turneROB a couple weeks ago, so i'll have to pick a couple more up from wheel world when i get my bike (then i'll be stan'itizing the wheels).

So, after a quicky el moro jaunt with californiaEpic i bolted home, changed (didnt bother to shower) and hustled up to wheelworld to pick up my bike. Justin had called me this morning around 10:15 (just as we were buckling our helmets) to let me know it was there. So, I head out and hit a little traffic (it always slows down at La Tijera
) I walk in and say whats up to Yan and he tells me to follow him to the other room in there and pulls out my bike. I take it for a spin and it felt way better. Not exactly sure how much shorter in length the top tube is, but it was much easier to yank up on the bars for the curb "hucks" i was doing. The spring is a 550lb, which i was concerned might be a tad soft, but he said they didnt have any spares, and there was a 650lb spring on the 18" but that probably woulda been too stiff. The 550 felt good and plush pedaling over speedbumps and off curbs. We didnt measure the sag, but it seemed to be right on. I played with the pro-pedal to feel the firmness of the pedalling platform and it was quite nice. Standover is still a little snug, but it isnt as bad as teh 18" and really isnt much of an issue anyways. I bought an extra tube and pair of lizard skin lock-ons and was on my way. I'd snap some pix, but my cable to upload the pix is at work. Now I just need to peel the overlay stickers off of the fork, put on my crank bro's candy's, and then hit some dirt!!! |
