Good luck man.
I'm curious about their approach on this: Yes, you signed a statement saying you'd been advised about the proper fit/size, but if they didn't have both a medium and a large to try, how could you have been advised correctly?

Default **update**

So, after taking an extended lunch I am back. I walk in the store with the bike and talk to Justin, a cool sales guy. I told him the situation and without even seeing me on the bike he says, "yeah man, an 18" is too big for you..." so, he then goes to get Yan, the manager (whom i talked to on the phone) and Yan looks at me and right away says, "yeah, that is way too big for you, the sales guy (i wont say his name) never should have pulled the bike out for you..." Now, things got a little interesting. The Culver City shop didnt have any 17" Coilers of any sort, they seemed to believe the Woodland Hills store didnt have any either, both sales guys get on the phone and one is calling Kona, the other is calling the other store. In the meantime I was talking with Yan and his goal was to get me on the right sized bike (no brainer there). Justin gets off the phone with Kona and they didnt have any more 06' Deluxes, at that point Yan says, "alright, order him up an 07, we'll give it to you for the same price..." i'm thinkinng, SUH-WEEEET!"...as Justin is going back to make the call, Sales guy "X" hangs up and says "Woodland Hills" has one, they'll do a transfer"...So, I was pretty close to getting the 07 for the cost of the 06 Deeluxe. I looked at the specs of the 07' and they are pretty similar, supposively they have a slacker head angle, but it comes with a Marzocchi 66 RV with ETA...

Anyhow, I have a "store credit" printed out and they are going to call me when the transfer arrives. Now, my question is, how much hardball to I play for the inconvenience factor? This place is about 50 miles round trip for me, and this will be my third visit to the store. I was trying to get a free pair of Lizard Skin lock-on grips, but Yan was saying, "i can give them to you at cost..." uhhhh, i hope you can do better than that bubb. Sitting in traffic sucks, and to do it 3 times is even worse. I know I perhaps shoulda known better than to go for the 18", but the sales guy also should have known better than to sell me the 18", like I said earlier, both Justin and Yan didnt even hesitate to question whether or not it was too big. Also, when I was about to test ride the 18" on Sunday, the bubb just pulled it off the rack and said, "ok, here ya go..." I had to ask him for a shock pump to check the psi in the rear shock, and when i asked him about the preload on the fork (has air valves on top of each leg) he says, "i have no idea..." uhhh, come on bubb, what kind of answer is that?

Long story short, I should be getting the 17" by Friday I'm hoping. Am I wrong to try to pimp some schwag out of them for the inconvenience?

That's cool you're being taken care of on the bike. As for your inconvenience, I doubt you'll get anything meaningful for free. I'd calculate the value of your time and gas costs and ask him for 50% off on accessories up to that amount. It's a win/win if you have stuff you need. They make 40-50% margin on most accessories so it's costing them very little if anything and you get what you need at a good deal. If not, hopefully the good deal you got on the bike won't sour you on the whole thing.

Now that you're being taken care of I guess we can give you little bit of a hard time for leaving the store with a large in the first place

I guess you won't be riding Friday now?

I'd say let it go since everything turned out ok. The fact that he offered to give you an '07 for the same price as an '06 shows he was willing to work it out. The drive on the 405 sucks, but you can pick up the bike on Sat and head out to the Whoops and break in the new Coiler.

Totally, I'm pumped that I am getting a 17" and knowing that it will work out is what really matters. If I have to pay "cost" on the grips, I guess thats better than paying retail. Depending on when the bike comes in, I may or may not be riding Friday Craigger. If it does come in, I'm gonna have to go get it after my meeting in the morning....I could ride Purple Haze though still.

Sounds like those guys did you right to me. I would not ask for anything more then the bike getting switched out.
I mean, no matter what a sales guy says, you sat one it and bought it. So them taking it back is very fair. You caused them some inconvenience too.

So, are you up for a tunnel trip on the 15th to break that baby in?

G - glad it worked out for you!

agreed with the above if it were me i wouldn't press them for anything else. think how concerned you were that they would not remedy the situation and how pissed u were. You got what u wanted once you realized issue existed. Original sales guy obviously didn't know sh!t. there's a bunch of them out there ...just chalk it up to a "painful" learning experience.

I agree with the idea of nabbing some needed accessories at a good discount - one that makes you happy but still lets them make a little $$, especially since their margin was already reduced on the '06 closeout. Either way though, do whatever you feel gets you the bike you want and the karma you need to enjoy it. Congrats on the new ride.

Asking for a discount on accessories is always worth a try, but i wouldnt press my luck on it. Seems like they took care of you and made an a+ effort to keep your business and get you on the right sized bike. In the end though you paid for a bike that was too big for you. It could have turned out much worse.Example, "Sorry but no returns on 06 closeouts. The bike is technically "used" and you signed the release that you were satisfied with the size and fit of your purchase." Anyways, glad youre stoked and got the right ride!!!

I'm with the let it go crowd. Karma stuff.........

If you don't have a metric ruler or tape measure, try this link, I use it all the time to measure my components. Just plug in the number you have in inches and it calulates for you. Good luck

At my shop, we use this simple formula - all you need is a calculator. "Metric size divided by 25.4"

That 130mm travel fork 130 / 25.4 = 5.12"

Multiply by 25.4 to go from inches to mm.

You oughta cough up at least another hundred bucks for the inconvenience you've caused the store.

They were DAMNED decent for going through all that trouble for you.

Yesterday you were whimpering about how to solve a situation that you created, and today you're asking about how to screw the guys who helped you out.

That's pretty weak, dude.

okay guy....

by the way, "You oughta cough up at least another hundred bucks for the inconvenience you've caused the store. ..." uhh, want to elaborate on that one, guy? i'm the one whom had to drive back because of the mistake that was made. i accepted the fact that ultimately it was my decision for going through with the sale. i didnt ride the bike, all i wanted to do was go and return it for a proper sized frame. yan was very accomodating as well as justin. salesman x did kinda seem like he felt bad for not advising me against the 18" frame. perhaps he could have called the woodland hills store when i was asking him about the 17"??? like i said, the inconvenience factor isnt that big of a deal, i retracted my statement about the schwag. so, if a shop accomodating a customer who just dropped a good chunk of change on a bike is an "inconvenience you've caused the store", then i dont know what to tell you, guy. im sure it is a huge pain in the ass for them to snap 4 reflectors back onto the bike and put it back on the rack...
