Default Best Knee/Shin Guards

Trying to find out what people think are the best Knee/Shin Guards on the market (protection/fit/non slipping).

I've been thinking about the Six Six One Moto Carbons -- any thoughts?

I use the EVS pads. Never seen anyone else use them. they get hot on really hit days, but doens't everything. They are completely wrapped in neoprene.

i own the 661 4x4's. love them, they go fromabout 3 inches above the knee to right above the ankle. one of the few on the market that doesnt contain neoprene (im alergic to the stuff.) got um on ebay cheap.

Rizz, there are a couple threads on this subject on this board somewhere, im too lazy to dig them up. I have some Roach's that I like alot, they are a bit toasty on warm days but they dont slip and they have great wrap around protection as well.

Landing Zone Knee/Shin Guards

I have the landing zone knee/shins. I ordered them direct.
Great fit/Nice style. I haven't yet crashed on them. But I don't think they are going anywhere. Very secure strap system.
In terms of heat, just use them on the way down.

I have the fox launch pads. They're nice no slipping, can climb in them without a problem, and when you crash its doesn't hurt at all. Hope this was helpful

I just got some RaceFace freeride, they are open in the back=cooler in summer and they don't slip. I also have 661 4x4's=good, 661 freeride=ok but slip a little. I like the race face one's the best so far then the 4x'4's. Hope this helps. I've seen the new troy lee ones. JfromLV has a set he could tell you about them.

So far so good on the new Troy Lee Lopes signature knee/shin guard. I imagine they may get a little hot since they have a neoprene sleeve for the knee, but they're open in the back. They definitely feel lighter and cooler than my Race Face DH pads used to feel, but I had no complaints about those either.

I'm interested in trying the TLD Lopes Knee Guard. Cool design. (I'm looking for protection that stays in place during a wreck and is comfy all day long.)

Tani @ The Path has been using them since the last race and seemed to like them so far. (He is back on the DL with a bum shoulder.)

Race Face/Rally FR = Comfy but I kept skinning my knees in crashes.

Fox Launch = Not as comfy, but stayed in place when I crashed. Rubs my knee raw under heavy pedaling.

661 4x4 = Tried once. Rubbed the top of my knees and pinched the back of it.

Rockgrdn LZMX = Tried once. Didn't fit me right.

661 Kyle Strait Knee = Comfy all day and stays in place. No shin protection.

The TLD system looks bad ass! Is there an plastic in the knee guard? ah, I should just look it up. It would be cool if it did, that way you can just take the knee/shin guard off on hot days.

661 Kyle Strait Knee: Good = Very comfy all day and stays in place. Padding on the side of the knee. Light weight, you forget you're even wearing these. Material seems durable as I've crashed a few times and haven't ripped them. I use these for All-Mtn type rides and on my DH race runs. Bad = No shin protection.

661 Race Lites: Good = Shin protection, light weight, side leg protection, and stays cool during those hot days. Bad = Tends to slip when pedalling but stays put when used with the 661 Padlocks.

i like my roach rally's pretty nicely. the knee could go up a little farther or tighten more. but the amount of comfort and cusion comparied to the fox launch is uncomparable. the fox is like having a sheet of plastic on.

This new TLD knee guard looks interesting. Looks like if you wanted to just have some brush/scrape protection, you could just wear the liner and strap on the rest when needed.

After wearing my new TLD's a few times, here's my take on them.

They're very light and comfortable, in comparison to the Roach/Race Face one's I have. They don't quite have the coverage I would like above the knee cap, they come up right to the top of my knee cap. I am not sure that shorter riders would have the same issue, I'm 6'3". Thankfully, I have not needed to put them to use just yet, don't want to scratch up that pretty white sheen!
