Hello everyone!
I'm going to Moab for the first time in April . Is there anything I should Know before going? like tires, trails to do,and trails to stay away from(like way to extreme) ,places to eat, bike shops to go to. I am going with an experienced rider who has been there before, but I am not as experienced as he. My bike skills are good but i'm no pro. I certainly don't want to do extreme stuff by any sorts. I like Cross country riding with single track and lots of hills with downhills. I ride a Trek fuel 100 OCLV frame, is this the right bike for moab? if not, should I rent one instead. Thanks in advance. Any help would be appreciated.MG. |

Been there a few times and might be goning the same time as you, we'll see... I'd say if exposure is not your thing then stay away from Spider Rim, there is literally a spot where you will die if you don't walk it.
The Rim trail is the big epic there, you can ride it from town or pay a $10 shuttle. The Slick Rock area you can get around on mtb rubber no problem, but if you can throw on a could couple of street tires you can have more fun with the extreme grip angles. And with this trail, remember, use your imagination! You don't necessarilly have to stay exactly on the dots!! ![]() |

Try to make at least one trip to Fruita if you can. It's only about 90 minutes away and offers incredible riding--it's almost too close to not visit at least once. I'll be in Moab April 14-21 and we're going to Fruita twice that week.
Also, don't be to proud to walk a section you don't feel comfortable doing. No sense in ruining your vacation with an injury all because you had to "push the envelope". I am probably more cautious when I'm on vacation riding than any other time. There was a guy in our group last year that just had to push it on a tech section he was already admitting he was scared about. He crashed hard and broke 3-4 ribs, on the third day of a seven day trip--no more riding for him that week.
