Default Has anyone rode in and camped at any of the local state parks..

Last week I rode around Chino State Park and noticed that they allow tent camping... There's not much to look at there, but I'm considering an overnighter there with the girlfriend.... Are there any other area's locally?

When the weather gets better, much better choices out there like: San Gabriels (Buckhorn, Chilao), San Bernardino (Big Bear, Hanna Rocks) and Los Padres National Forests (Mt. Pinos, McGill Trail).

Chino Hills does not do much for me. I think they should bring the livestock back to keep the weeds and grass under controll. The other choices I listed have excellent singletrack and very nice campgrounds.

Blue Jay CG is right at the top of San Juan Trail. Cuyamaca Rancho SP in SD has lots of riding and is close to Noble Canyon. If you get up to San Luis Obispo, Montana de Oro has a great campground right near the beach and has some great trails.

Let's not forget about El Moro State Park.

I wouldn't ever camp at CSP b/c the lovely smell from the Brea dump....

anywhere along Ortega Hwy is much better...

Try El Moro. Top of "I think I can" fire road and there's two upper and lower campgrounds. I'll be there to show your girlfriend how to pitch a tent! j/k just trying some goofy humor.

It may be a bit far, but this time of year Malibu is a great place to ride. Camp at Malibu Creek State Park. Ride the backbone. There actually is a little bit of decent riding right by the campground as I recall, but you will need to drive a little bit to get to the best parts. Or take one of two stout climbs up to the top (Bulldog or Mesa Peak Motorway). They are marked as blue squares on this map, but they are pretty steep as I recall.Mountain Biking Malibu Creek State Park
