Default BBQ idea?

What about setting up some tables and a BBQ in Irvine Park sometime after daylight wasting time is over with some games and stuff. Do a loop or two around Oaks and then just hang and BBQ......

I'd be into that, if it's done on a Sunday.
Kinda like the idea Gureo(did I spell that right?) sent out about Aliso in March.

What is a FRED ride...
A few years ago VeoNews had an article called FRED's vs FABIO's. In a nutshell, it was bike nerds vs flamboyant roady types. Bikes with fat seats, flat pedals, baskets and helmets with mirrors vs bikes with potato chip seats, 140g pedals, loaded jersey pockets and "I'm too cool to even look, let alone use a non-aerodynamic mirror." FRED's don't shave their legs, eat bananas and have a fanny pack versus the FABIO's that not only shave their legs, but also shave their arms, sustain their energy through Hammer Gels in a flask and so on.

I loved the idea of the article so a few friends and I started doing Friday afternoon FRED rides. The idea was simple. Get out there and enjoy the ride. It was always a short ride where everyone was required to stay together. The racers always hung out with the rest of the crew. Soon the numbers grew (30 to 40 people.) Everyone was asked to bring a little food to share with others. Then the BOB trailers showed up. Soon the beers. Then the Captain Morgans. Then the music backpack.

In the smallest nutshell available... that is a FRED ride.
1st the FRED 909 ride.
2nd the (IENCC) Inland Empire Night Cross Crit

I'll look as well. Or maybe a Volleyball net or flag football. There's more than enough grass at Irvine park. I'm not sure about the beer though. Is it OK in Irvine Park?

How about April 15th? Seems like a good day to have some fun....

It's possible that I could setup a ride in Fremont/Wier/Blind Canyons. The land management is changing hands between now and then but I still have some priviliges. The staging area for that loop is at the back of Irvine Park.

Depending on how much time we have, we could go out to the "point of no return" before actually dropping down into Fremont. Then when we head back, we can turn down into Weir/Blind, under the toll road and back to Irvine Park. Like you said, nothing techy and no single track but still a good ride.
If there are any other IRLRT volunteers who would like to go, we could take two groups so we could do a longer and shorter version.
As I mentioned, the rules are changing very soon, but I think special group rides can still be arranged. All I need is a date and I can start making the necessary calls.
