Default What kind of GPS do I need for Geoladders??

Well I decided to accept a job in Sacramento, so in the spring I will be moving. I would like to continue using Geoladders to track my rides. What kind of GPS do I need in order to upload my rides to that site?

On a side note, does anyone know of a good place to get one on the cheap (i.e. anyone selling one)?

I think the Edge 305 is a popular geoladder gps, isn't it?

Yup, Garmin Edge 305 seems to be the darling one right now. You can also use other Garmin products, Ann has the Foretrex 101 and it works with Geoladders.

REI: Camping Expert Advice

Here's a link for a buyers guide at REI, which I think is a good place to look at the wide range of stuff available.

I got an Etrax a couple of years ago, it's very basic. Try to get a bundle if you can, I had to buy a cable to connect mine to the PC that was $30, then I had to buy software which was another $30!
So what might seem a deal at first might not be. My handle bar mount was $18 & a case was also $18.

I wish I could follow that with 'Having a GPS Priceless', but I don't use it that much!!!

Hey ponch, depending on what you want to do you may get away with a cheaper one. I have a plain base model Garmin eTrex, I record my paths, and use the 9-pin cable to download it to Motionbased. Then I get the GPX from Motionbased and load it into Geoladders, and voila! I have my own route. Total cost to me $100. ($60 for the unit and $30 for the cable [ $10 Tax ] ). Don't get me wrong though I definatley see a EDGE 305HR in my future.

Ok so I knew that I've seen this somewhere and I found it again

$255.95 for the HR/CAD bundle W/ bike mount. ( I didn't see anywhere that a second mount was there, it may have one if that is how they come originaly from the factory)

And he has 42 available at that price, and will pull discounts for Large Quantity Orders !!!

Costco.com has the Forerunner 305 for $269 w/HR (there is an extra $50 rebate from Garmin, making it about 220) and the Edge 305 for $289 w/HR & Cadence

Costco is excellent if you have to return anything, pretty much any reason

Hey man, My wife's family lives in Sacramento & I've been taking my bike up there to ride. I'll send you a message when I'm in town.

Here's a link that I've been using. I've GPS'd the Salmon Falls route (check my geo profile) & rode the Sweetwater trail.

Good link! I could have used that when I lived in Sac - it's so flat - the flume ride in Tahoe looks awesome

Any GPS will work. But if you are competitive and want to post more than 2 rides per day you need an Edge (205 or 305) and GeoAgent software. This rule cuts down on cheating - hard to fake a history file uploaded straight from the Edge. GeoAgent costs $90/year.

Correct and if you don't have the software use GPSBabel.
