Who'd be interested in hitting LV for a weekend road trip? Ride early in the cool mornings, sleep in the afternoon and hit the town in the evening. We can do some room sharing to keep the green for beer, gas and the Sunday buffet.
I'm sure someone like Dean would know all the trails around that area apart from the obvious and aparently wonderful Bootleg Canyon. A show of hands for those interested....... ![]()

Nope Dean blows right by Vegas, nothing in that town for me. If I am going that far I am heading to St. George. St. George/Virgin has some of the best tech trails on Planet Earth.

There is only Red Rock, Cottonwood and Bootleg and that pretty much does it for the immediate LV area. I'll be following Dean North and heading to UT.

I ride in Vegas all the time. For XC, Cottonwood trails are good. Great views of red rock. All singletrack, not too much tech. You can do from 3 - 30 miles without too much elevation gain. Stan's is recommended. Lots of cactus.
Bootleg Canyon is my favorite. Downhill and XC trails so there's something for everyone. Bring your armor. If you go down you will be donating skin. the rocks are gnarly and sharp. If you like technical singletrack riding, this place is heaven. Near Cottonwood there's also the Cowboy trails and in the summer there's riding on Mt Charleston. This time of year it's best to ride after 10:00 am since it's pretty cold in the morning. The peeps on the mtbr Nevada forum are very cool and are always willing to play tour guide. C |

My complaint with Vegas is not the riding. As a non gambler, non drinker not much there for me. That place overwelms me and makes staying sober tuff.

Vegas sounds fun, haven't been there in a while and never ride it. But, I have to agree that St George is only about 1 hour further and has fun trails!

OK so we can stay in vegas do the local trails Saturday and the St. George trails the following morning? Actually visa versa would be better with the de rigueur hangovers. Jose can sink some Phat tyre and put his bike on black at the tables

What Maxwell said, you are so close to the good stuff...shame not to drive a couple hours more.

Make it a long weekend and do 'em both. Head straight to St. George after work Thurs. (don't want to head that way Fri. P.M., no sir), ride Gooseberry on Friday, Little Creek Saturday, head to Bootleg early Sunday, then home. Works well, really.
BYOB, though. Britney Spears will top the charts again before you find a liquor store in Utah. |
