Bend over

ok so i know i'm not the most liked person here, but let me just say that on the trail i follow all the rules. if i'm behind you i will let you know, if i want to pass i iwill let you know, if you're climbing and i'm decending i will pull over, flat tires, mechanical" do you need help?" i obey all the usual trail kidness.
ok...so i'm on the upper single track once you get out of Laguna lake park and i hear a guy playing the game of rushing up on me without notice, i speed up keeping the lead, no big deal. we go down along the rail road tracks. he drops into the golf course and now i am behind him. i am moving and let him know that i am on his left as i process to accelerate to pass now he wants to play the cut off game. there is plenty of room, but he wants to f*** around. i back off, but we're both moving it opens up and i hit that little jump to the right. he is still in the lead as we get to the tunnels we slow for some traffic. we both go through the tunnels i am still behind as the trail opens up i have plenty of juice to pass so again i proceed to pass, " on your left" as we both get up to that little rise, again he cuts me off, but this time we get tangled up. i said what the f***! he starts cursing ,let's go right now!!! and now i think screw this guy he's not worth it. even though i have my cedrics on (carbon knucle protection), i don't want to fight. i keep going up to the dam, now he comes up talking sh!t. i let him go, yeah i called him an ass too. i love mountain biking and i really didn't want this bad energy to pollute my love. so i let it go. i just don't understand what is with people. ps: sorry to the folks in this site, i admit i have been an ass in the past |

You should have pulled along side and said 'Whats your pleasure Sir?!' I'm guessing you look just like you do in your avatar so it may well have caused him to crash into the bushes leaving you to enjoy a pleasant ride LOL!

you shoulda dropped the gloves man. sounds like the bad energy (name calling, etc..) already polluted your ride. if you beat his ass, then tossed his bike in that mucky and murky creek, maybe next time he'dd think twice before acting up like that...
on a serious note, sounds like you coulda been egging him on by jocking for position through that portion of the trail. glad neither one of ya got hurt when you guys got tangled up.

See the dog bite thread. Pepper spray has a way of making people change their attitude.
I partially agree with the G-man. Drop the gloves but provoke him first so he take the first swing. Self-Defense. I totally agree with Neccros. Let us know what he was riding so everyone knows what to look out for. I don't know about not being well liked. I think you are a good person I think he was just a type-A a**hole who bikes because accomplishing a ride make him feel better about his sh!tty life. Sorry it happened to you. |

As he was rolling by I think the bike pump into the front wheel spokes like in the movie "Breaking Away" would have been totally justified there. Just kidding.
That whole exchange sucks dude. Unfortunately, it's probably like dealing with road rage drivers. Somebody folks just can't let go whatever pissed them off that day and act like A-holes on their bikes. (and probably their cars too) Totally different situation, but I personally love when somebody will draft off your wheel on a long climb. And then when you drop back and put the pressure back on them they totally get pissy and freak out. |

That's my back yard...so please describe him, so we know what to watch out for.
Ultimately, I think you did the right thing, which makes you more of a man than him...unlike myself who would have thought, "GAME ON!!!" I have a couple friends who I intentionally play "cutoff" with, so I'd love to do it with a little spite and no good intentions. And also having raced BMX for a good many years, I am very comfortable going elbow to elbow on a bike. I've seen quite a few of those wannabe racer punks on the loop that aren't so nice...especially to my beginner friends who are "in their way" while they try to maintain a race pace. Although I won't say I'm fast on uphills, I can hold my own on the downhills. After I've seen and heard rude comments to my beginner friends, I've chased some these guys down the hills and cut them off somewhat aggressively. Not enough to make them go down, but while I was doing it, I'd ask how it feels to be a rookie. I can be such an @$$ at times, I know.I liked Pho'd Up's reference to "Breaking Away." I haven't seen that movie in a long time. |

Good advice, I know when you're in the heat of the moment, you want to go to blows, and no doubt you would regret it later.

Having been in trouble with the law for fighting, I can tell you, it's not something you want to do. I think you did good in not taking it to the next level. Bummer this had to happen. I've had a few instances where people have been total asses on the trail and I figure if I don't let it bother me, then it doesn't screw up my ride. Let it go.Life is short. Try to enjoy the good things out there and don't let this get in your way.

Good job doing the right thing. It can be hard when the adrenaline starts flowing and some dickhead needs an ass kicking but it's not worth it. As for being an ass on this site, I don't think most hold a grudge for shit talked behind a keyboard. Join in on a ride some time.
