Angry Stupid! Idiot! Dumbell!

This was suspose to be a RR for Coldwater... Not! This morning I decided to take the 5.5 instead of the SS.. I wanted a cushy ride down Coldwater even though it's a heavy pain in the a$$ going up. I carefully took both wheels off the bike so I could fit it inside the car instead of using the truck mounted rack... Ahh, much safer that way. I carefully put all the various bike stuff in the back seat (helmet, shoes, gloves, etc..etc.) I carefully loaded up with plenty of water and snacks... and off I went for a 50 minute drive to Indian Truck Trail of of I-15....arriving early with plenty of time to put the bike together... Only then did I discover that I had forgot the 20 mm thru axel for the Pike!

Anybody have an extra axel??? NO!

Needless to say I was totally bummed as I had been looking forward to doing Coldwater since they had done all the work on it in Dec/Jan... and the weather was perfect.

After extending my apologies to the 8 other riders, I beat a hasty retreat home and, of course, found the thru axel right on the floor of the garage where I left it.

Of course nobody else has ever done this type of thing...

Not wanting to miss this weather, I went over to Aliso Woods, rode everything in sight (even went over to Disneyland) for 3 hours... somehow I felt better.

You are definitely not alone, OMR.

I once left my helmet at the wrong end of a shuttle ride, and oh, that sinking feeling when I realized what happened was awful! Couldn't believe it, and even suspended all rational thought for a moment or two--I actually checked my pockets to see if it was there. It wasn't.

I know your pain. Glad you got a good ride in after all.

A long time ago I left my quick release at home too. D'oh!

We saw matt (ocrider) at the Holy Jim/ Main Divide intersection. He said he was gonna try and catch up to the coldwater gang; did he succeed?

Since I left my wheel axel at home and couldn't do the ride... Lance Armstrong could have riding up there today for all I know!

Oh well, wasn't meant to be.

no, so i rested for a while and dropped upper Holy Jim. and rode over to trabuco and rode down with Calvin from Warriors and He said I mised the group by a few minutes. No big deal though it was still a very fun ride. Got in alot of milage riding to and from the trails.

I once forget my axel becuase it was in the garage with my wheel D-oh!

I hate to admit this, but I will in the hopes it will make you feel better.

One morning I got up early as the ride was a distance from home (70 miles) so I wanted to get an early start. I had prepped my bike the night before so everything for the most part was ready. One of the dogs had got into the trash during the night and had spread it all over the living room so I was a little distracted by this and after cleaning up I noticed I was running a little behind, so I ran out to the garage looked in my truck, seen my helmet, gloves, shoes and camelback were all there and I took off. As I was getting off the freeway I looked in my rearview mirror to make a lane change and then that's when it hit me, "I left the whole freekin bike" in the garage. I turned around as fast as I could hoping no one seen me and headed home. I was pissed for the rest of the day, even after I did a local ride.

Mike,

You know, I'm starting to feel a lot better... to make a mistake is to be human... what the hell, let's go ride!

Thanks,

Well then let me put you over the top. Someone in my family who also rides (wifey) left home to go meet a friend in Cuyamaca. She threw the bike on the roof rack and headed out then realized she forgot something. I guess you know where this is going. What she really forgot, was that the bike was on the roof when she drove into the garage.
BTW - you may not want to mention that I announced this next time you see her.

Once, 2 miles away from home in Montreal I realized I forgot my wife in the driveway. It's been 10 happy years...
