If you haven't heard yet, I've got some info on what's going on in Palos Verdes.
Forrestal Nature Preserve Trail Work Day When - 9:00 AM to 12 Noon Saturday February 24th . Be sure to sign in at the gate with CORBA as your group association. Where - Forrestal Preserve at the end of Forrestal Drive in Rancho Palos Verdes. Why - Our trail work efforts have given cyclists respect throughout the community. We need to show that we are committed to maintain and repair our trails through volunteer work. Three hours of work is a very small price to pay for a great place to ride. If you can't make it, find someone who can. No excuses! This is our opportunity to work on trails closed to mountain bikes. Our goal is to work with the city of Rancho Palos Verdes and the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy to make these trails suitable for bicycle use. If we maintain this level of commitment we can achieve all of our goals. More News!!! Cyclists Win Opportunity RPV City Council to open Forrestal trails to bikes February 24th. By unanimous vote, the Rancho Palos Verdes city council voted to allow bikes on upper trails at Forrestal on a trial basis. The trails will reopen Saturday February 24. What does that mean? Riding these trails will be allowed until the Public Use Master Plan Committee makes its final decision on uses for all trails in Rancho Palos Verdes. During this period, trails will be monitored to see what impacts bikes have on trails and other users. That means your behavior will be observed. We urge you to obey all of the trail Etiquette guidelines. ? Stay on trails designated for bikes. ? Do not make new trails. ? Stop for all other users. ? Respect habitat. ? Control speed. Why did we get these trails back? The bottom line is, the respect gained from volunteering hundreds of hours to the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy and promoting responsible trail use to fellow mountain bikers. If you were part of this, you can take pride in knowing that you made it happen. If you didn't, make the commitment to help us keep this important work moving forward. The system works. The city has shown us that if we participate, they will listen. The community has shown us that if we are responsible trail users, they will include us. We have laid the foundation to help keep the trails we love.* If you ride in Rancho Palos Verdes, step up and do your part. A few hours a year is a small price to pay for a place to ride.
