No such thing!
So I was looking through the pics on my xhd and found these pics from about a year ago. Unfortunately, I lost the article link that goes with the photos so I can not provide any details on this beast. If anyone knows what it is, feel free to inform. |

I'm skeptical about the efficiency of using two shocks on one wheel as opposed to using a single custom shock. What benefit do you get out of TWO shocks that one doesn't give you? The only thing I can see two shocks doing is interfering with each others' actions (i.e.: generating damping effects) unless you have them perfectly tuned to each other, in which case they would just be distributing half the load. As far as I can tell, springs in parallel do nothing but increase the spring rate. Certainly, no extra travel or anything.
If there is something to the idea of using two instead of one, can a suspension expert explain this one to me? And brakes. Do we really need two brakes in front? Assuming they help you stop faster, has anyone ever tried, say, a pair of Avid Codes and felt they were too weak? Looking at cars, I can't say I've ever seen more than one brake or more than one shock per wheel. I'd wager this bike is more about bling than performance.

As forementioned, I doubt that the shocks would do anything. Parallel just creates two shocks with equal stroke. You would get less stroke to travel through as opposed to a regular set up with 8 inches of stroke. Both shocks would also limit each other if not tuned perfectly in sync. If not tuned perfectly in sync, the shock that is harder to compress will limit the other shock. IMO, it would lead to extremely f*(#ed up spring curves. To justify 2 front brakes you'd have to have a 50lb bike and be a heavy ass clyde- even then two brakes would probably be too much bite. OTB Anyone?

the only reason that I can come up with is that you would need to run only half of the normal air pressure per air can. Since there is double the volume of air in the air cannister, it would allow you to more fine tune the spring rate. You would also gain from having twice the amount of oil in the damper assembly as well. You would be able to gain more fluid velocity and still achieve the same damping ratio. Also since you have double the oil capacity, you would be less prone to shock fade.
I don't know about the double front brake set up, but the suspension side seems to follow the rules....... Take a look at a desert race truck to see multiple damper body set up, per suspension arm. Unless of course they are running a 4"+ damper body. This maybe a better option.... ![]() And this is taken off a Cosworth rs200... group B rally car. ![]() |
