Default Dirt Bike Riders?

I know this isn't specifically bicycle related, but hey, this is the "General Discussion" forum, right?

After talking with a few guys last week in Fontana, it seems that riding a lot of guys who ride mountain bikes also ride dirt bikes. Who here rides dirt bikes, and what kind of riding do you do?

I ride a Honda CRF450X. I still have my old YZ250 two-stroker that I need to sell, and I also have an XR200R for my girlfriend. I ride desert and trails (love the rocks!), but for my own health, I stay off the track...although I guess crashing with some guy at 80 mph on the bomb run isn't exactly safe, so I think I should no longer use that comment about tracks.

Maybe we can put together an STR dirt bike ride. After all, we are SoCalTrailRiders!

I ride a 2007 KX450F and just sold my 2003 KTM 525EXC. I use to race every weekend, but now my kids sports take up my weekends. I still enjoy riding and racing selected events.

i got an older cr250r thats sort of out of service right now. Got the rear axle stuck on and broke the chain tensioner screw. So, I need to get the axle off, but it started to strip so I haven't messed with it because I need to find a new axle now because I don't want to put it back on half stripped if I ever get it out. Otherwise I would go out riding

The threads are stripping, or are you rounding off the bolts?

Either way, axles are cheap on ebay--no more than $15 or so, so it's a pretty painless fix. What year is your bike?

How did you break the tensioner bolt? Did the threads get stuck in the swingarm? (BTW, these threads should be greased from time to time).

Yes, please explain how the axle is stripped.

I think I have a YZ450 in my garage somewhere. It's been collecting dust for far too long. An STR Dirtbike ride is a great idea. I would like to do a day ride out near phelan/pinion hills soon.

RidetheRAAM4:
Get an axle on EBAY and go to your local honda dealer for the chain tension screws, go ride.

I've got a 2006 Yamaha TT R125, with a total of 6 hours on it. It's still fun as all get out but I wish it sat a little lower. I might go back and just tget the TT R90. I use it just in the desert. I might try it out later this spring up in Kennedy Meadows.

I have a KTM400. I use it to trail ride and out in the desert. Three weekend ago I did a 60 mile ride, all singletrack. I ran out of gas two miles from the truck. Luckily my buddy runs a large tank.

I got a CR250.

Where do you go riding at?

Little harder to just pick up and go riding these days. Most stuff has been developed.

I spent the first half of my life on dirt bikes. I’m always tempted to get back into it. How much open space is there these days for green sticker bikes? (is that system still in use?)

I have little desire for those duel sport things that so many are into now.

The kids call them motards, but if you're one of the cooler kids, they are just 'tards.

For me the new generation of dually is where it's at. My motocross days are past.

This thing is a 250 lb XC race bike with a license plate.

Anyone wanna buy a Flux so I can put one of these in my garage?

Lots of riding space left for green sticker bikes.

A couple of the local places I ride are Adelanto (I actually park quite aways from El Mirage) and Apple Valley. If you want to do longer rides, it's easy to put together 100 mile loop from Adelanto to the Outlet Center in Barstow, and then to Apple Valley and back.

Although I haven't done it yet, you can ride from Apple Valley up to Big Bear and back. And there's lot so riding, I'm told, around Silverwood.

If you want some awesome rides, albeit a little bit further of a drive, you can go to the Sierras, such as Kennedy Meadows or Dove Springs/Jawbone. Lots of stuff to ride!

And then, of course, Baja!

If we can establish a date, we can meet up in Apple Valley and do a quick 40-60 mile ride to the Outlet Center and back. There are also lots of fun rock areas to play on/in in Apple Valley.

Hey, that's pretty cool! I could into that. It's far more dirt worthy than most of the other behemoths I see out there. Sweet!

well, i the bike is an 86 so they don't make the axles any more, but the axle is basically just a huge bolt. The hex part was getting stripped and the tensioner broke because of bad design. The old models had the screw sticking out the back of the swingarm so i must have hit it on a rock or something and it broke the screw off.

I check on ebay for a rear axle but its hard to find it unless its on a parts bike, but most people wont give me just the rear axle because then they can't keep the back wheel on to roll it around.

Actually, the American Honda parts warehouse in Torrance has 6 of those axles in stock (P/N 42301-KA3-831). MSRP is $55.44.

Unfortunately, none of the Honda warehouses have the chain adjuster in stock, but with some creativity, I'm sure something can be fabbed up.
