Never been and heading there for first time for business in early February. Not sure will be able to accomodate, but if I can find the time would be nice to get a ride in.

Any one care to offer some trail suggestions not too far from Vegas strip and a bike shop to rent rig.

I think the closest place to the strip would be Cottonwood/Blue Diamond.
McGhie's Bike Outpost – Bike Tours and Bike Rentals Near Las Vegas, Nevada these guys rent out bikes. I ride these trails when I'm out visiting the in-laws and I've rented bikes [C-Dales] from here as well... decent enough for a rental.
Venture a little farther out.. southeast and hit up Bootleg Canyon. Super fun out in Boulder City. There are a couple places in town that rent bikes there as well.

I ride in Las Vegas quite a bit and highly recommend you find a way to sneak in a ride any way you can. The riding is very good. All singletrack, killer views, and a blast to ride.

From the strip, the Cottonwood trails are about 30 minutes away. Bootleg Canyon about 45 minutes.

Cottonwood is more XC.

Bootleg has it all but is way more technical. The shuttles only run on the weekends for pure downhill but the XC/AM stuff is killer if you like tech.

If you want to ride the Cottonwood trail system, the bike shop in Blue Diamond rents bikes.

If you want to ride Bootleg there's a shop right there in Boulder City. I think it's called All Mountain Cyclery or something like that. It's on the main drag just past the Taco Bell on the same side of the street.
