Default Move The Roadie Forum?

Since the admin likes to make surveys before taking action, I'm making a poll regarding the Roadie Forum. Does having it be so prominent on the home forum page bug you?(considering it is a mtb site)

The newbie forum is a "sub" forum, why not the roadie forum also

Sounds like the whole topic of having a road forum has gotten under some people's skin. i wonder if someone is going to bust a mel gibson or kramer and go off on roadies. roadies are people too....

if you're going to make it a sub forum where would it fit under? general discussions? doesn't seem logical....too different.

i dont think anyone's going to "go off" on roadies or anything i just agree that it should be a sub forum considering this is SoCal TrailRiders.
I have no problem with the roadie section, it doesn't really make sense to me on a MTB site but whatever, not my decision. If i really had something road specific to ask or talk about i probably wouldn't do it on a MTB site

But what about all the others who partake in both? I just wish people would quit differentiating between the two. They are both about riding a bike. Why make it so complicated? By dividing us as riders we only weaken ourselfs with our causes. Weather it's road riding or mountain biking they are still the same thing, it's about riding a bike. It's not a big difference as to what is under your tires.Almost all the mountain biking sites that are successful offer a roadie forum/s. A lot of the information relates to each of the different type of riding and a lot of people do both. Give it a chance. If you don't enjoy road riding there's no reason to hate the people who do, or the difference in opinions as to what is fun and what isn't.

I will be on the SART both days. One on asphalt and the other on dirt.

I don't ride a road bike, but if I did, I would want someone like Pain Freak around, who has a lot of experience on a bike, whether it be mountain or road, to help me out with ?'s. Why go spend time at another site, when ?'s, or issues, or planning rides, can be done right here with the people you already know and trust?

I've already stated my opinion on this. But just FYI: if you don't want to see the road forum I can make it happen on a per-user basis. PM me.

for the love of God people....if it doesn't cause cancer who cares. i dont own a road bike and never will but i could care less if people talk about it cause it does no harm to me. i am also not a girl (though some would disagree) and I aint gonna whine that there is a ladies forum either, especially since they could probably kick my asss anyway.

Growing pains, that's all. Not a huge fan of road content personally, but we'll find a happy medium, I'm sure. Always do.

Heck, I've already learned a few things--can't always say that about some of the sites/threads I've been known to frequent.

Gotta second jfromlv's observations: Pain Freak is a hell of a resource. Thanks for keeping it in focus.

Mountain bikes came from beach cruiser type bikes. So . . . sort of. Check out this trailer for a movie about early mountain biking.

Passion is passion. Road, MTB, track...
but any thought of a unicycle or recumbent forum is just too much.

i don't really care where it is... but could we exclude it from the 'Unread Posts' counts??? My unread posts will go through the roof if unchecked
I personally won't be visiting that forum at all and would rather not be reminded that i've got a sh!t load of posts to read there...

Pretty cool! Though they do say that the mountain bike wasn't created in any one place at any one time ... there were dudes (here in the santa monica mountains) going out on road bikes and hybrids. In No Cal it looks like they favored cruiser types. Mountain bikes are at the end of the evolutionary chain, and road bikes were just one of the ancestors. Even motor cycles are a sort of ancestor, no?

another thought -- mountain bike racers spend a LOT of time (sometimes 80 percent in winter) on a road bike. that alone should justify there being a "salient" road bike forumn here.

Like others have said, I don't own a road bike and never will. I just don't see the attraction. However, that is just one jerk's opinion and I realize that. People are different and like different things. It's what makes the "world go 'round". That's life.

There is another great thing about life--if you don't like it, you don't have to look at it. It's like people who complain about bad TV shows--if you don't like it, don't watch it. It's that simple.

That being said, if you are a Roadie, the Roadie forum is great. If you aren't a Roadie, don't go to that forum. If you are anti-Roadie, the Roadie forum will help keep all Roadie talk out of the other forums, thus making the STR experience better for you.

Also, just my opinion here, but I don't really like any type of "sub-forum". I never remember they are there and always forget to check them, so I miss out. My own problem of course, but why not have all the forums on the main page in a big list?
