Question do you prefer cold or hot weather when you ride?

I do well in colder weather and can usually go with a short sleeve when most everyone needs a long sleeve. Get tired and fatigued a lot faster as the temperature rises.

I know mike (pain freak) prefers the warmer weather and both JamR and vonDiggs both get cold really easily. So what temperature do you like to ride in?

I don't do well when it gets hot, I can handle some heat but when it is in the 90's it will usually slow me down quite a bit. Then again I don't like extremely cold weather either. The one ride we did Holy Jim/Trabuco where there was snow on Holy Jim and most all of Main Divide my feet went completely numb. Other than that it wasn't too bad. I'm gonna have to try the plastic bag over the feet thing, because even 3 pairs of socks didn't help me that day. Really hot or cold can both be dangerous if you aren't prepared.

Temps in the 60's please. That's what I like, when it's cooler, I ride faster and don't tire as easily. Anything below that, then I'm cold unless I got my leggings and long sleeves on. We rode Lower Rock Creek last Thanksgiving and the temps were in the low 50's. With the right gear on, it wasn't too bad.

Heat just wears me out. I'm not a big fan of riding in hot weather. Usually, after a ride on a hot day, I've got a headache the rest of the day. We're talking 95+ on the trail here.

I don't pay the high price to live in So Cal to be cold. Turn up the heat please.

I prefer the heat...... I am not above going out for a ride at noon during the middle of summer.

It takes a lot for me to get cold. If not for work, I don't wear pants until the temps drop below 50....shorts only.

I will ride in the cold...I am just not comfortable.

Ok, cool anyway. Like around 65 or 70. I don't tire out as quick, the water in the pack lasts longer, and besides, for cold weather you can add clothing, but in hot weather you reach a point where if you take any more clothes off you'll get arrested

Hot, you have to carry lots more water. Well, atleast I do and my sweat has tons of salt in it so I lose about twice the amount of electrolytes. So, I prefer cold. Don't have to take as much water so your pack is lighter and that's always good. And the sweat is less so the cramps don't even think about showing up. Once you start riding you warm up so long sleeve, short sleeve, they all work. Just get some arm warms for when you start the ride and when you take breaks.

cold for sure then i can sport my upper body gear and plus it makes it easier for me to climb and get exhausted since i have a low blood pressure and i pass the f#ck out if I work to hard( too bad really) so i vote for cold. this wasnt a poll ?? intersting

For training: The hotter the better.
For racing: Doesn't matter. Externals can be tuned out, but I'd prefer either really hot or crappy cold conditions as it'll "take out" half the folks and that's fine with me.

I prefer cooler weather, like a few others have mentioned, you can always dress in layers for warmth. That HJ to Trabuco ride last year we did was pretty cold, with snow littering most of the upper portion of HJ and Main Divide. The heat does zap me a lot faster and the water/gatorade/cytomax does disappear out of my camelbak much quicker when its hot. I find myself gravitating towards the shady area of a fireroad or whatever shadow I can tuck myself into when its hot out. If there is a breeze then it makes the heat a little more tolerable, if not, it usually is brutal.

I'm amazed at the responses of preffering cold weather. Have you ever noticed the trailheads and parking lots when the weather turns warmer? They are much, much fuller (is that a word?) when the temps turn up vs down. I notice most events typically are scheduled in the warmer months with spring and fall getting the majority. I personally like it when the thermometer reachs the 90's.

Ah, Mario, you seem like such a nice guy...but you're really a shark, huh?

Anyway, I prefer cool weather for sure for MTB. 60's are ideal but even cooler is fine for climbing (even into the 40's). Just need to carry some warm/dry stuff for the way down.
