Nice looking bike, but I've always wondered about the shock location on those Specs. Seems like they'd be very prone to damage from rocks, dirt, water, sticks, angry gophers, etc., etc.

Not that I'd turn one down if you're giving them away ;-)
....riding sweep, whether I mean to or not.

that is very "epicish". I wonder if the Stumpjumper 29er will be the same.

The Demo will get some changes to geometry, but that is about it. It will have a lower BB.

This is interesting that they are going to the horizontal shock mounting. They took the 2008 FSR XC and the horizontal shock mount and made it vertical for 2009. Now they are changing their bikes to horizontal?

    Anyone know why?

I still like the designs from 06. Looks like they over shot the mark.

The reason they went to a rocker link and the vertically mounted shock was to eliminate the interrupted seat tube and lower the center of gravity.
The reason for switching back is the new shock weighs a third of what the old one weighed, it's much smaller so the need to interrupt the seat tube isn't there. The old shock location just rode better in my opinion and I have owned every Stumpy for the last 5 years.
But perhaps the biggest reason is the 08s and 09s look pretty similar to the newer Treks. And for the first time ever, Trek full suspension bikes don't suck.

Easy on the white grips. I just put a pair of ESI white grips on my smoke Ells Epi, and I must say, they look SWEET!!! Bling without the bling...

I had my doubts, but when I was at the shop, they were out of black and only had red and blue and white. Figured, what the hell, i'll throw some white on there. Turns out to look pretty damn cool. They don't glow in real life like the picture though....

just pulled my white ESI's and put back on the black (grey really) Chunky's - the porous ESI white grips leached dye from my gloves like nothing else - there's even 2 slightly cleaner patches of carpet from where the bike was upside down overnight the other day
