oh yeah, i dont really care if people talk about road riding here.
I'm a relative newcomer to this forum so I'll offer up my observation. This thread highlights how easy it is to show a lack of respect when you get to hide behind the anonymity of the internet. The original poster has a valid question but it's destined to be an inflammatory thread from the get-go with his wording.

Riding road can be a great way to improve your mountain biking experience. For the record, I don't care if people talk about road riding either. If you don't want to read about it, don't click it.

Not disagreeing with you, but adding to... What's funny is that, at first, I thought Killa Cali was totally serious and I was actually bummed because I got into road riding because of people I met here. Then, I realized he was mostly joking. So, I decided to joke back. I thought this thread was going to be jokes now. That's why I wrote a big rant. I thought Stray was kidding with the comment about Fords and Chevys. I mean, what's lamer than car people arguing over which car is better when everybody knows that both of them pieces of crap?

Oh great, now people are going to freak out again. Oh well.

I now see that Stray wasn't kidding and he actually believes what he wrote. I let it get personal with Stray and I apologize both to Stray and to the board. I'm done with it. It's only funny until someone gets hurt. Then, you have pictures of carnage to post.

I agree with Gurp. I thought most of the posts were jokes. Although the original question is a legitimate one ( kind of) the spin off thereof was a mixture of the hilarious and the homicidal. I think that we can all agree that we all have differing opinions on this subject. The lowest common denominator is a question you have to ask yourself. That being: If you saw a guy on a road bike wreck and he didn't get up would you stop and try to help? If so then at some level you do have a tolerance for road bikers and perhaps that tolerance will grow with time. If not then I don't ever want to ride with you because who knows where your intolerance will end? I mean if youre that opinionated about something as close as road vs mtb then how would you feel about more controversial issues like abortion, religion or politics? And what would the outcome of those opinions be?

Still love gurp's rant tho

As a commercial truck driver, I encounter road bikers a lot. One time in San Diego I saw a roadie crash (Hit by a car) I promptly stopped and took him and his bike to the emergency ward. Another time I was driving along a highway and saw a roadie walking his bike. I knew that he must of had a flat and stopped to help him and took him to the nearest town. Listen, I do have compassion as much as the next guy.

I am really not that closed minded as many of you are trying to make me. My interests about bicycles involve the off road kind. That's all. I love to challenge myself to excel in the genre that I love.

Honestly, I am a mirror...I treat people the way I am treated. You come off as a jerk, I can be twice that. No problem.

If riding a road bike is your thing. FANTASTIC! However, I really don't want to hear about it on a trail riding forum. Why is that so difficult to understand?

Why not have a separate area for the road bikers? I wasn't aware that this web site was called SOCALTRAILRIDERSANDROADIES.com

Obviously this is a touchy subject. So if someone has a different view why is it such a shock?

By, the way, nothing personal Stray, my comment was directed at everyone, not just you. I detected a little defensiveness in your post. Shotgun, not sniper rifle. I think we should have a separate area for roadies too.

Lordy, lordy-what did I start

Just for the record 1) I was just PLAYING AROUND and just assumed everyone would recognize and 2) I do not own a road bike nor lycra shorts but yes, do ride on the road to get to trail heads and have even entered "festival road events" and ridden my mtn bike so I can ride along with my friends who only road ride (and yes I keep their pace-ignore the fact they don't ride much) and 3) to each his/her own in regard to riding preference as well as all other personal choices.

While I cannot consider myself a veteran of the board, candidly the "tone" has picked up a bit. While I have certainly poked fun at some postings, I always thought was in good fun (e.g. poem for GURP) and hope it was understood as such,

In any regard - cannot speak to other postings but mine was in pure fun as I imagine most everyone’s is. As I have "mentioned" to George he and the other OG's have done a great job building site and certainly do not want to do anything to detract.

I gotta get back to work so -carry on if you must but know this in my mind riding is riding and that what keeps me happy and sane (aling with my wife and kids).

Spellcheck anyone???

I actually think it's a good discussion - at least people get to express their opinions. That said, it seems everyone has had a chance to toss in their own .02.

Roadies, if you guys want a section make a poll in website discussion and we'll see what the majority says. Other then that just keep labeling threads so people know. Roadie haters, just don't click on the roadie threads.

I doubt this will become like the other sites, btw.
