Yup, almost had one the other day it was sold by the time I called to schedule a look at it.

Stickers eh? I think that would be cool.

Good luck on your beater car purchase.

I put my bike in my SUV, and have seen several people put them in the truck of theirs (dis and re-assembly required).

My bike was on a hitch mount (which I prefer to others--I have underground parking and don't trust my memory when pulling into my spot with regards to my bike), and, while the hitch mount seems great, we were rear-ended. Luckily my bike was the only one on the rack, so it was on the inside and unharmed.

The other problem that we have had with hitch mounts is finding one that secures 29'ers, as the extension seems designed for 26's.

What price range for the beater? Does it have to run, or do you have mechanical skills?

If you are truely wanting a beater you are better off buying a early 90s toyota pickup. You can pick them up pretty cheap and they are still reliable trucks. You can even look into the late 80s and find some decent yota trucks running around for cheap. No bike rack needed

I second that early 90's toy. Those things run forever and there are plenty of them you can get for cheap Just ask your gardener

the mini van seems perfect, you could leave your bike locked up inside at all times and who's going to think a nice mtb is inside anyways

I considred breaking down the bike and sticking it in the trunk but it's a tight fit getting it in there.

When I said beater I mean BEATER. I'm looking in the 500-700 range and I do have some mechanical skills. I can be handy with a socket wrench when I have to.

A small truck or minivan would be great options too. I know that my $ point is limiting my choices, I might have to put out a bit more if I want to find a decent small truck.

Yeah the term "runs" seems to be relative. I've called a few people to discuss their ads and it seems they all have a different idea of what "runs" means.

The trucks I listed were on the BEATER end but if you can pony up about $5000 for a used truck you can find something nice in the mid 90s Toyota.
