Default What range is this??

So i'm flying to TX the other day (out of SNA), i look out the window and see this low cloud cover with the mtns sticking through. Pretty cool - take pic with camera phone. This was maybe within 15 minutes of takeoff.
How sweet would it be to ride through this up to peak

Had my head in mag during takoff - any guess on what mtns are these (not testing i have no idea) gotta be past SA's - Big Bear maybe?

Hmmm, I've done that flight numerous times myself...

That smaller range looks a lot like the santa anas.

Often from SNA you take off going west and spend a few minutes climbing before heading back east so maybe you weren't as far as you thought. And doesn't it turn to uber-desert right after the big bear-area?

...that cloud cover plays havoc on the old mental map.

the smaller range is the Santa Anas and the range further back is the San Bernadino mountains.
