Bikes don't kill bunnies
|
With response to both guys lookin to buy, if you only want to consider new bikes, then only look at Hardtails. You'd be much better off with a quality hardtail, than a budget basement full squish. Transition Vagrant, Cannondale Chase, Specialized P series, Kona Cowan or Stuff, and Giant STP are all great bikes more orriented towards DJ/freeride than outright XC. As such, they usually aren't as efficient uphill as true XC geo bikes, but if you're coming from a 20" background will probably feel more familiar. There are even better frames that can be built up, but they're outside the budget of the two guys lookin.
A D NOH, you might want to look at the Giant Rainier as well. I got one on close out a couple years ago after my full susp rig was ripped off. I've used it for mostly street, goofin off, and some light FR. It's not ideal for my style but it survived (I weighed 240 when I was putting miles on that rig). I'd take the Specialized over the Ironhorse in your price range, but thats just a personal preference. One more thing. For both gents lookin to get into their rigs. Going hardtail will build some good bike handling fundamentals that transcend any level of physical fitness. Additionally, you'll learn how to read lines better because you'll have to . Then if either of the guys progress and buck up into a full squish bike, they'll just rip that much harder.Good luck, Chris |

(and some tires and a new rims for my beach cruisers) The back rim is so bent from jumping all these years, haha

Thanks for all the tips guys. Tonight we went to Rock n Road in Foothill and he bought a bike. Ended up talking him into spending a little more to get a better bike. He bought a new 2007 Spec XC Pro disc. The new 07 paint jobs are really nice and the bike is setup much better than what he was getting into before. We rode a little tonight and he enjoyes the bike. Also saw some of the new stumpjumper paint jobs, damn theyre nice...
