Default STR Loaner/test Bike Spreadsheet

Since on STR we are all relatively close geographically, it may be useful to see if somebody has a bike/part you are interested in before dropping down the money to buy it. It may save some grief or give you ideas of other options out there. If nothing else, helped me kill some time at work today

Created an account on google so we could all view and modify the spreadsheet since otherwise I would need to invite people individually to share the spreadsheet created from my account and that would not be effective.

(1) you log on to http://spreadsheets.google.com
(2) USERNAME = socaltrailriders
(3) PASSWORD = singlespeed
(4) click on OPEN
(5) select STR

I created various tabs.....probably the most useful will be bikes. you will see I added columns that I think are the useful ones, such as type of frame, size of frame, wheelsize. these are the things that people may search on to find something applicable. also added username and location so people can see how far that person is.

And dont forget to sign out if you guys (and gals) use it.

When I built up my bike used the following spreadsheet from LBS. May be worth something towards this effort. Think similar exists on other sites towards build specs

Damn, we are bike geeks! Parts on a spreadsheet. My buddy created a spreadsheet with all the parts including weight. He knew what his bike would weigh before it was built.

I donated anything worth donating to the church and the neighborhood kids about have me cleaned out at this time.

oh i hear yuh....i have a spreadsheet like that but also has grams

i was thinking the point of the google spreadsheet would be more to provide a useful tool for members to easily which bikes/forks are out there to test out, not so much provide detailed specs but rather see if one of us can hook em up for a test ride or at least good input on the bike. my angle was more along the lines of "who might have bike X that I am interested in?"...or something like that. and with the size and location, folks can easily hook up for test rides.

dubjay...sweet wheels you posted on spreadhseet. when I get some coin again, I want to upgrade my Salsa crappy wheels....do you then recommend your Hope Pro II hubs?

I have some Hope Pro II's built up one some 819's for my 5spot. I originally wanted KINGS but the ProII were wayy cheaper and even lighter. There super smooth but the engagement is kind of sloppy. The BULBS have a little quicker engagement. If I ever get a PIKE I can easily convert it to 20mm which is kinda cool.

They're not bad. Price is right (~$200 or less). Fairly lightweight for a cassette type hub (I think in the 360g range). Engagement is decent. Not as quick as a CK or Hadley, but still not bad. And I think you have the ability to run multiple cogs if need be. I've seen some 1x5 setups with it.

The only one thing that may bug some people is how loud it is. I think some people might think I have a baseball card or something going on in my spokes. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I don't need to pack a bell or anything on my Voodoo - I just need to coast.

Thanks Von-Skipp and dubjay....

I am not a believer personally that engagement makes a hill of beans of difference for "most" riding (ie, trials it matters, but not for general XC riding) so that does not bother me. I am done with Kings; if I am gonna spend a lot of money I will go I9 from now on.

It is between a Hope Pro II or another American Classic wheelset, which i have really had great luck with.

thanks again

yeah...that is probably what i am gonna go with. they are super light, and i love the fact they use DT Competition spokesm and not some silly multi-butted 29er spoke, which i believe (no data to support) really helps make this light wheelset handle stuff well. Heck, to make other wheelsets as light as the Am Classics you gotta run not only really light hubs, but rims like Stans with light spokes which for a 29er is a bad idea due to the longer length, even at my girlish weight of 175. For example, Supercomps are REALLY flexy once you go to 29er length but have worked great for me on 26 wheels.

and for what it is worth, I "think" my next bike is gonna be a 26" lightweight single speed. I have the frame identified (old school John Tomac signature Ti frame) and will put parts together based on my club deals and the such to keep it cheap....run v-brakes out back, disc front, with something like an F80X fork.

i constantly toy with the idea of getting something like a Stinky for some rides but know I wont get any use out of it since I am afraid to get hurt and have the wife yell at me while in the ER (has happened before).

I'm running them as well and, for the most part, I like them. Like Skippy said, the engagement is a little lagged but they're very stiff, light and I haven't had any problems with them despite the fact that I've ridden them through mud, rain, sand, snow, water, silt and pretty much anything else you can think of.

BTW, I love the idea of the spreadsheet but, every time I try to launch the site, it crashes my web browser. I've never had that happen with any other site, ever (at least since I've owned a Mac) so I'm not sure what's going on.

Try downloading Firefox for the mac, I believe it will work with google spreadsheets.

That's what I've been using. I tried using Safari as well but the spreadsheet doesn't support Safari. Oh well.

sorry...did not realize there were technical issues to be considered for the google spreadsheets. glad i got lucky on my end with the appropriate software already here.
