Default Volunteers labor to create EM bike park (UT)

Volunteers have converged on Eagle Mountain to create what they expect to be the state's best freeride mountain biking park.

The city has worked with a Utah-based nonprofit mountain biking group, the Wasatch Area Freeride Trail Association Inc., and a local homeowners association to create what they have said would be the state's first full-service bike park.

The park would be free to the public and has already drawn interest from around the state.

WAFTA, as the group is called, petitioned to create the Eagle Mountain park as a way of creating more freeriding opportunities, said Michael Howell, general counsel for WAFTA.

Eagle Mountain's park is going to be the first real public full-service mountain bike park in the state of Utah, Howell said.

"Park City does have a dirt jump park, but no city has yet to incorporate all the elements of a freeride mountain bike park as Eagle Mountain has done," he said.

The city now owns the land the park is on, said Eagle Mountain city administrator John Hendrickson.

"We were able to work a land exchange, and the city paid a greenbelt rollback tax of $4,500," he said. "We got 4 acres for 4,500 bucks."

There is new news on the Eagle Mountain Bike park. We, after a long hard wait, have finally received final clearance for construction. Dump trucks should roll next week Oct. 22. We are getting 60-70 loads for the jumps, berms, pump track, and screening mounds. The dirt will get pushed close to where it needs to be with bobcats and backhoe, but we need lots of help with the shaping. Keep an eye out for updates. but we should be getting started on the 25th Saturday morning.
