Man, alot of hate in this thread, I am suprised it is still open. Opening statement was an attack opn another Mtn biker..... I thought that was a NoNo to begin with. Anyways, There are a couple things to remember that some two have been pointed out already.
First off, do we know the actual date of when teh picture was taken? Two, is he an FS volunteer??? I know alot of people complain about trails being close and what not, but hey go do the class, get on teh list, and be a Forrestry volunteer.... Guess what..... Now your doing fire inspections, noone ever said you cant take your bike with you, Oh and you also have access to keys!!!!! I think its pretty safe to say EVERYONE, on this board has ridden a clsoed trail before, Either knowlingly, or unknowingly. Many just might have posted a picture of them on that trail maybe not realizing it was closed. Cut some slack, you need to know everything about it before you grind someone. |

Everyone just needs to chill, there are alot more worse things going on in the world then bitching about someone riding a closed trail. We arn't the trail police and I'm sure the time will come when they get busted.

Here's a point of reference. There is a trail across the street from my house. I consider it to be "my backyard" for all intents and purposes as I spend so much time on it, sometimes on bikes, sometimes trail running, sometimes with my boys chasing rabbits or catching frogs in the creek, and sometimes with my Lab. Bikes are allowed, but there are a lot of hikers here - some celebs, some filthy rich homeowners one push of a button away from ringing their lawyer should you run into them on your bike or god forbid your dog bites them. There has been talk of banning dogs from this trail due to the number of people ignoring the leash law. I'm sure there is talk of banning bikes as well, as the trail is designated as a Hiking Trail. That would be a crying shame. I have watched kite-surfing access in SoCal beaches dwindle due to the ignorant and reckless actions of few (granted the sport poses significant public safety hazards) - nevertheless it's relevant.
It's all about respect. I feel like a broken record now as I say this a hundred times a day to my kids, but honestly that's what it is. Some people vent more aggressively than others, but the intent is important. Cheers. Riding tonight under the full moon. In my backyard. |

This is just a general observation:
There are a lot of hypocrites who post on this board. They will chastise others publicly for riding closed/illegal trails but then go ride them when nobody is looking. That's what I find pathetic. (Still, I do agree that uploading that picture to STR was bad form). |

True, true. I neither endorse nor condemn illegal trail riding as a whole, and I'm not gonna be one to get into people's shit if they choose to assume the risk. I'm not their friggin' Daddy; we're talking about adults, after all. There are a lot of folks here who would probably say that just makes me part of the problem. Well, as The Dude once said, "That's just, like, your opinion, man."

Whether you agree with the closure or not is not the point.
The point is that it gives anti mountain biking people more ammunition against all of us and gives other people the impression of mountain bikers having a "we don't give a s#%t about closures" arrogance. Not good if we want a good relationship with the people who have a big say on trail access. Trail closures suck. Seem to cause lots of controversy all round |

There are two sides to the issue, that of trail "USERS" and stewards. One group sits around bitching and the other does something about it. Both sides can receive the same fines and penalties for non-compliance with the law, honestly though monetary fines and imprisonment are a piece of cake compared with the slings and arrows of your "peers". I could give a damn who poaches or volunteers, the choice is up to the individual and I respect their right to choose. The closed areas are closed. Certain groups can request access a month in advance, await approval for their planned activities, and still be turned down for liability, insurance, fire danger, or no reason at all. Unauthorized groups could be trafficking, smuggling, attempting further arson and so are universally shrouded in probable cause and will have to argue for a break in the terms of their penalty.
The law is very black and white here, but you guys make it more colorful than a rainbow. Now for fun is a colorful take on cereal; The American Parents Association (APA) is very angry and it’s all because of the children’s cereal Lucky Charms. But it’s not the old issue of cereals being unhealthy and bad for kids teeth. Instead the APA is leveling the more serious charge that Lucky Charms corrupts kids by creating a cereal which caters to a child’s every whim and desire. "This", claims the APA, "results in bratty children who expect to get everything they want."Eunice Hunit, founder and chairperson of APA explained the case again Lucky Charms today at a press conference. "It’s no wonder that when our children are indulged each morning as they eat decadent cereals like Lucky Charms, that they start expecting their every whim and desire to be met. They turn into spoiled little brats." "Lucky Charms used to be a good cereal" claims Hunit. "It had four types of marshmallow treats - just enough to titillate, but not enough to spoil you. There weren’t very many treats in the box and you had to do some fancy spoon work to make sure your last bite would be a mouthful of those sweet marshmallows. All this hard work taught kids a lesson: Good things don't come easy." "Now however thing have changed" charges Hunit. "There are not four, not five, not six, not even seven marshmallow treats in a box of Lucky Charms today. There’s NINE!...NINE!!! There are all sorts of fancy and unimaginable shapes and colors and there is an orgy’s worth of them in each box! I had a bowl this morning to see for myself and I had to fight to keep them off my spoon. As I was finishing - without even trying - I had a whole school of the treats floating around in my bowl. Now I can understand why my kids demand I do their homework while they go watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer... they are spoiled by their cereal!"One skeptical reporter asked Hunit what would happen if instead of mounting this publicity campaign, parents tried setting limits with their children. "I don’t think so", replied Hunit. "Parents such as myself would much rather take on a national campaign to boycott a multi-million dollar cereal company. By doing so we imply that everyone other than ourselves are to blame for the problems with our kids. Besides, the boycott is much easier than actually trying to discipline those little bastards."
