Default Helmet Suggestions

Looking for some helmet suggestions? Pros/Cons. I used to ride with BMX style helmets and may pick up another one but I was looking for some advice on what you use and why?

Thanks!

I like my Bell slant. I tried a Giro before but it didn't fit my head right. Go to a store and try them on. If you get a good deal there go ahead and buy there or go online through Jenson or Pricepoint once you know the helmet you want.

You really have to try them on to see what feels/looks good on you. Different companies feel different.

True dat - my $50 Bell fits as good or better than my $125 Giro. Performance has a large selection to check out.

you gotta try them on. i once had a bell nemisis pro that fit like crap. now, i have a bell ghisallo that fits ok, and a bell sweep xc that is just awesome. same company, but a slightly different fit with all three models even though they were the same size.

see if there is a performance bike near you and try a few on. they usually have a ton of helmets on display. sometimes, at great prices too. check out jenson before hand to get some idea on pricing or style/models you might prefer.

also, with the temps getting abit higher and summer right around the corner, you might want something with some big vents. they help keep you cooler and it looks sweet too. another reason why i love my sweep xc.

i use my sweep xc on the road as well, just snap off the visor.

being cool???? well, everyone looks funny in a helmet...but it looks even crappier if you can't feed yourself at a family picnic

Or if your family has to feed you at a picnic.

I like the Bell roc loc, but actually fond the Giro fit me better. Either brand makes high quality stuff. Get plenty of vents!

Are you looking for a full face or just the head guard ones. I use the TLD Carbon full face. I love the fit and its light weight. As for the regular helmet, I just use my snowboard helmet. Hehe.. Gets kinda hot sometimes but its ok when u moving.

I ended up going to Performance in Laguna tonight and getting a Giro Havoc. There was another model that was a tiny bit more comfy but for half the cost this is fine for now. The guy ended up giving me another $10 off at the counter so it was only $39.99.

If you want a picture I'm going to have to charge you for it.

I was riding a Yamaha DS7 in 76 and was one of the few who always wore my helmet. Full face Bell Star, the best helmet money could buy at that time. It later on ended up saving my life. I still had a schwinn Varsity then, but you're right, no one , not even the dorks wore helmets in those days.

I'd have to say Kentonn is the cool one. He rides the anti-XC bike anywhere the XC guys go. He never complains, and rides like, well like an awesome rider. I love riding with that guy.

Matt, you come in a close second, and the other two, well they can battle it out with lightsabers for third.

I'm still wearing a Bell Image Pro that I bought in 1997. I'm probably due a new one some day. But the new one is going to have to be white, so it reflects heat better.

That reminds me. I still need to replace my helmet from the "inverted drop" test I gave it at Palm Canyon.... Bell Influx- comfy and life saving! (In case anyone reading this didn't know- if you crash on your head you should replace your helmet. They aren't designed for more than one good hit. Bell has a trade-in program I used before.)
