Default Which fork?

so i'm split between a few forks here, and i knew many of you have ridden one if not both forks.
i'm split between both coil pike's with the u_turn. the only difference is the cheaper one has a steel steerer tube and the crowns are solid, whereas the more expensive model has an aluminum steerer and hollow crown.
i'm also looking at the fox 36 talas rc2, which is almost double the price.
which fork would you get and why?
any other forks you would reccomend, i am looking for 1-1/8 HT, 100-160 mm travel, with travel adjust and i would prefer spring since i'm not sure if i like the air forks.

You can forget about the TALAS RC2 if you don't want to go with an air fork. I think the Pike and TALAS are in slightly different categories. What bike are you putting it on and what type of riding do you plan on doing on it?

actually, i rode the Talas for a minute at work the other day and it felt fine.
its going on my eastern dirt jumper.
its reccomended to be run with a 150mm travel fork, but i want something i can crank down to like 13 or 100 for 4x racing, and keep high for dh type races

How many bikes do you have these days, BFlo?

Oh, to be young again!

Can you try riding the Pike? Sounds like your only option is the TALAS though. If the bike is built around a 150mm fork then it may feel a little sketchy with the Pike since it's only a 140mm fork.

I would also be hesitant to race with the fork slammed down to 100mm. That's just asking for trouble with such a steep head angle. Your looking at ~2-3 degree sharper head angle there. I'm not familiar with the Eastern Dirt Jumper so I could be talking out of my @$$ here. Just general statements about bike handling.

The Fox will probably be stiffer with the 36mm stantions, but I, personally, prefer the damping of Rock Shox over the Fox. Unfortunately, the Pike is only 140mm. You should consider the Lyric or even the Totem if you plan on using it for DH racing.

Sorry, but that probably didn't make much sense and probably didn't help much if at all. It's been a long day for me.

You want a lyric/domain coil or a take off 150 marz, you might find a spinner but I doubt you will run into a cash crunch.

I have actually ridden a Pike coil, and i think its a sick fork. i especially like the travel adjust on it, since you can go in 5 mm incriments.
And let me give some info on the Eastern Slash. It's a 5 inch travel bike, made for 4x/DJ/FR. I ran my fox 32 vanilla on it at 130mm for awhile and it worked great.
I have also seen people using the marz 4x, a 100mm travel fork with no problems..
So either way, i just need something where the travel is adjustable.. I'd like it to be versatile, so i can race fontucky 4x, and maybe even DH on the light DH courses since it would pedal significantly easier than a 43 pound bike.
I'm just split between the Pike Coil U-Turn, and the Fox 36 Talas RC2

I had a 2007 Fox 32 Talas RLC and liked it a lot. A few weeks ago I upgraded to a 2009 Fox 36 Talas RC2 and love it. The 20mm feels a lot stiffer and I have better control than I did with the standard QR on the 32.

Thanks for the Responses... Looks like i am Going for the Pike 454 Coil U-turn for now. Seems to fit the bike better, and its a great feeling fork.

I don't blame you. For the price difference, I don't see how you can go wrong with the
Pike-454-Coil-U-Turn.
