Default Blackstar

Never rode here but seems like a lot of you ride it, how is this course? I've been wanting to do it for a while now but never get the chance. Of the following courses which do you all prefer?

The most popular is Blackstar to Beek's. If you want some extra mileage, then you can push on to Sierra Peak. It's basically an out and back, so you just turn around whenever you want.

All fireroad but I love the ride. Not to steep but steep and long enough to get your heart going. There is a little downhill flat section in the middle to give you a break and on a clear day the view at the top is great.

Like others have said its all fire road. Personally, I think its boring and probably not worth the drive unless you are looking for a route for training purposes.

You can also climb up to Beek's and drop down into Corona on Shyline and back or hit the pain divide to Eagle beware the private property at the bottom of eagle though... and loop back up skyline. not to mention once the pain divide opens over to the motorway life starts to get good and painful, not to mention busy as everyone will be training for CC and VQ

Great training ride: About 2100 feet of climbing in 7.5 miles. True, it's all fire road and sort of boring, but it's quiet with some nice views and it's one of those rides that'll quickly get you feeling like you're getting away from it all. I rode it last week, and it's in great shape right now, plus the weather is getting really good for it.

The trail is the best I have ever seen it. Makes for a fun downhill but watch the riders coming up.

For me, I avoid it most of the year until it's time to train for the VQ and get a good feel for my time up and beyond Beek's. There are many other places to get my climbs in with a better descent in the end.

There are other ways to come down. You just have to look.

I grew up hiking/driving up and down Blackstar. I always like the ride up and down. True, it's not singletrack but that doesn't change the scenery or the views. I personally like climbing the Skyline side more though. Skyline has some really good hidden tech stuff that's fun to ride too.

A lot of folks like to time themselves up Blackstar. It seems like a sub-hour time is a nice, fast pace. If you plan on doing any of the WS races, it's good to be familliar with the climb.
